Importance of Calling

Within multple aspects of your life communitication is key, and in this modern age it can be done through many different means from however distances. Most notible being a phone call, or a text message. While refering to distance communitican as nothing beats in person, what are the advantages of calling versus texting? And are there situations where either is better than the other? Throughout most instances calling should be the preferred method, it is more professional, it showcases vocal emotion, and leaves less up to interpertation.

Without a doubt, calling someone is much more professional in comparison to texting. In many instances where you need to set a formal tone, it would be to discuss a topic which requires detail. Where texting has its advantages being quick and to the point, calling allows for detailed discussions that is present in professional environments. The real time communication present with calls also adds a sense of urgency whereas sometimes it takes ages to even get a text back. This is why a lot of employers prefer calls, and why I personally choose to call rather than text whenever I communicate with coworkers or my employers.

Your senses are of very high importance when communicating, of course using a phone either way will remove the use of a few of your senses. But calling still allows you to use one of your most important senses while communicating, your hearing. Do not underestimate how important vocal queues are while in a conversation, how important someones voice is. Conveying accurate emotion is nearly impossible by texting, typing out that your upset would not carry as much as if someone could hear your voice whilst explaining. The lack of being able to pick up on tone through texting also causes confusion with many messages. The way you write a text may not be interpreted the same as if you spoke it. This makes calling much more valuable for having conversations where you should use your voice and tone to convey your message. This could by talking to a family member, a friend, a colleague. The fact that you can convey so much through just your voice is the reason many including myself choose to call over text in stressful situations such as when my car broke down or when a deer ran out in front of my car. Situations where you may be stresses you voice carries a lot of weight making calling the natural choice.

Personally I prefer calling over texting, and in most cases I will pick it. But nothing beats the casual, quick communicating that texting offers. As I progress further into my adult life I can only imagine that I will choose to pick up the phone instead of texting even more than I do now, as the professionalism, the voice, and the more directly conveyed messages have much advantage over bland and informal texting. But there are still many cases where both are better than the other but, if you can, try to call rather than text.
