Self-driving vehicles have the potential to revolutionize travel as we know it. It can increase safety and accessibility. However, their widespread adoption is hindered by unresolved technological limitations and ethical concerns such as the computer systems, radar, etc.
Self-driving cars use a combo of cameras, radar, lidar, GPS, and computer smart to drive themselves. Similar to how people use AI for information, these self-driving cars use artificial intelligence to drive themselves. The cameras see the road. Radar and lidar sense objects near the vehicle. Snd the GPS, of course, is used for navigation. Then the computer intakes all the information to create calculated code for the next move the vehicle will make during the drive, such as control steering, braking, and acceleration.
Some of the issues with self-driving vehicles are tech hiccups. They can struggle in bad weather like snow or heavy rain, and sometimes they have trouble with unexpected situations like construction zones or unmarked roads. Ethical dilemmas are challenging where tricky questions about who’s responsible if there is an accident com up, and how the car should decide in unavoidable crash scenarios. Another major issue with self-driving vehicles is job losses. Truck drivers and taxi drivers would be out of work if these cars became widespread. Another risk would be security. They could be hacked or used for miscellaneous purposes which is a big concern. They are extremely expensive making these cars unaffordable for many people and there are regulatory issues governments are still figuring out for how to regulate self-driving cars. This is slowing down their rollout and, of course, data privacy is a big concern. These cars collect a lot of data, raising concerns about how it’s stored and used
In conclusion, I believe these self-driving cars are going to cause more harm than good, mostly because they are so new and have many flaws, which put the driver and others in danger. It risks people with families and bills to pay from loving their jobs, as they’re self-driving.
