Over the past 4 years, we all have gone through so much as a class and individuals and have done so many things, some that we are proud of and some that we regret and wish we could go back and change if given the chance.
Freshman year was the first time that I had stepped into a school since COVID happened, and at the beginning of that year, everything was a challenge for me to get back into the normal routine, and having to reestablish myself in my friend groups that had seen each other all 8th grade year. All well-being masked for the first half of the year. And the crazy change in the amount of work was a big difference from the 8th grade year. As the year went on, I continued to integrate back into my less socially awkward ways after not seeing any friends for my entire 8th-grade year. Freshman year for me and all of us getting back together and trying to get back into a normal high school environment that existed before COVID, with all the restrictions being slowly lifted through are first semester, and towards the end, everyone seemingly found their group where they fit into and are starting to find things that they enjoy.
Sophomore year was the year everything was falling apart throughout the year; we had many big storms, and one of them was so cold that it made the pipes in the guidance and guidance wing burst. And that sent all of us to remote learning for about a week, and we all just love remote learning, especially when they changed the rules so that you had to stay in class for the whole time and couldn’t leave when you were done with your work. This year was also about figuring out what you wanted to do so that you could make plans for classes you wanted to take in the next 2 years. Sophomore year was also the first time weave had to write a speech, just like the one I’m writing right now, and I had the bright idea to pick one of the most boring topics I’ve ever had to write about, and let’s just say it was a struggle to write about big game hunting and even worse trying to give the speech with me so nervous up their that I’m losing my place almost after every line and getting embarrassed because of helped you grow and gain confidence to be able to better yourself in the future.
Junior year was the year where you had many options on what you wanted to do for electives, and when still thinking about completing all your graduation requirements before senior year. The work started getting harder and more complicated, and the amount of work greatly increased, with most of the class taking Algebra 2 and having to sit through Delta Math which we all thought was the worst thing on earth until we remembered we still had Membean to do. Overall, junior year was the year you had a lot more choice and freedom to decide what you wanted to do, and teachers were not going to hunt you down to make sure that you passed. This led to a lot of procrastination on doing assignments, which led a lot of students to do the thing teachers hate the most. The last couple of weeks of school, the academic comeback was that everyone would turn in all their work at the very last minute.
Senior year was the year when the phone rule became a thing, and teachers had to lock your phone away in the box at the beginning of class. This rule did not last long, with most teachers giving up on enforcing it after the first month. It was also the year when most students only technically needed English to pass, so you fill your schedule up with study hall, where you sit and think about doing work, but you would never do any of your work throughout the year. English, the one class needs to graduate, somehow turns into the hardest class to pass due to the amount of procrastination on the work that wasn’t that hard; in the end, you realize, if you just had to put the energy to start it, and not procrastinate that passing Senior english was not truly as hard as people put it out to be, And that senior year flew by as I’m looking back writing this. And hoping everyone enjoyed High school to the fullest and if you didn’t reflect and make sure that take risks in the future.
