Psmith26’s symbol is eye-catching and original. His Avatar is a square that is split in half by a black line going from the top left to the bottom right corners. The bottom left quadrant is colored orange. The top right quadrant is entirely white except for a triangle with curved lines colored purple, pointing towards the bottom left. All of the lines in the logo are black, including those inside the triangle.

Before he explained what all of the aspects of his Avatar meant, I had my original guesses. I had originally thought that the orange might represent sports due to the fact that orange is similar to the color of a basketball, and although its a stretch, it could be linked to football. I believed that the white could symbolize how he always wears white; I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever seen him wear an outfit without it. I guessed that the purple represented a specific hobby that I hadn’t known, or that it was a favorite color. Finally with the triangle, I was kinda left at a loss, so I went with pizza.

After he had explained the symbolism of all of the parts of his logo, I was very surprised by certain aspects’ meanings. For starters, I was shocked to find out that the orange corner of the logo was meant to represent food, he said, “When you get full after eating, you feel like a warm orange color”. I followed up by asking him what his favorite food was, which he said, “I probably gotta go with pizza, maybe tacos” so although I didn’t get the color right, I was on the right path with my guess about the triangle. I asked him what the white section meant, and he told me it actually had no meaning, it was just a blank area. I asked him about if the sections being parted meant anything, and he said “no, but the line separating them shows the split of sports and video games in my life, cause you gotta even it out”. I followed this up with what sports and games do you play and he said, “I play football, basketball, and lacrosse and for games I mainly play Minecraft, Rocket League, and Brawlhalla”. I had asked about the triangle, not knowing what to expect, and he hit me with “It represents music because its like a volume bar” which was just about the last thing I would’ve guessed. I asked him what kind of music he listens too and he told me he mainly listens to rap and r and b. The final thing I asked was what does the purple mean, and he said its just his favorite color which is the only thing I was able to correctly guess.

We both had some similarities in symbolic meaning but, design-wise we went in completely opposite directions. We both incorporated music and food into ours designs, but used completely different methods with him using a color for the feeling of eating and me using a color for a specific food place, and with music he used a volume bar while I used a vinyl record. Other than those two we didn’t take the same route in any other way with him using many line based details while I focused in colors and distinguished symbols. I believe his method was much more efficient in allowing creativity and overall allowing it to be visually appealing while mine was much more straight forward with meaning.
