Change is a challenge for everyone, especially for me. When I moved to Oak Hill it was a huge change for me. Coming from a school that had 300+ students in just one class, to a school that has less than 100 students in each class. I came from a school where you’re either related to everyone, or you know them. Compared to Oak Hill where I only knew 1 or 2 people. Having to make new friends as a shy person worried me a lot. Also having to learn my way around a new school, which was actually easier to learn being a one story school, compared to my old school that was 3 stories. Being shy at a new school and going in not knowing anyone terrified me. I keep to myself a lot, I’m pretty quiet and shy. So going into a new environment where I had to learn so many new things and people, was not something I wanted to do.
Life is full of change. From changing of a coach or teacher or even a job. Change can be scary, but it can also be eye opening and good. It can help change your perspective on things, which can help you grow. Going to a new school and not knowing anyone, showed how change isn’t as scary as it seems, and sometimes it can be for the better. It made me have to step out of my comfort zone and meet new people I’ve never talked to before. I had to learn that change is part of life, even if I hate change it will be something I have to get used to. As I get older my life will start to have many changes. I will not always be in my comfort zone.
Moving schools wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. One of my friends from Oxford used to go to Oak Hill and moved back the same year with me. So I became friends with her small group of friends. Even if I didn’t stay friends with them long I at least started to get to know more people that went to Oak Hill. I figured my way around the school pretty fast and I got used to this new school pretty fast. I learned that change isn’t as scary and bad as it seems. I also joined the cheerleading team which is something I have been doing since I was 5. So it was a small piece of comfort to me, that also helped me try it in a new uncomfortable environment. As I got older a lot of things changed from jobs and coaches and my house. Even things changed when I got my license. I no longer needed my family to take me to school or practices because I could do it now. It was weird, but also gave me more responsibility which is all part of growing up and the changes of life.
Change is not as bad as it seems, life is constantly changing. You as a person are constantly changing. Change is a big part of life and you just have to learn to live with it. Not all change is bad and as we get older we will change a lot. Adapting to a new environment with new people was a struggle but it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was. Once I got to know people and I got used to a new school. You basically just have to accept that life is hard, things can be hard, change is hard. But it will happen so I try hard to learn and grow and understand that it’s all just a part of life. Best wishes to change in the future.
