My partner, THyde26, designed his avatar based on his personal hobbies, each symbol representing an activity that holds meaning in his life. The central focus of his design is two fishpoles arranged in a cross pattern, with a pair of boxing gloves hanging from each pole. Fishing represents peace, patience, and reflection, while boxing stands for strength, endurance, and determination. They capture two opposing yet complementary sides of his personality.
At the center of the avatar, the brown fishing poles intersect to form an “X,” almost like a pirate flag — a subtle sign of adventure and challenge. The blue background adds another layer of meaning. When I asked THyde26 about his color choice, he said his favorite color was purple, which initially confused me. However, after hearing him describe the peaceful nature of fishing and how it helps him clear his mind, the blue background began to make sense. It symbolizes tranquility and emotional balance — the calm space between the intensity of boxing and the serenity of being out on the water.
When I asked him about how long he has been boxing, he told me he started around nine months ago and tries to fish about two to three times a week. These details show that both activities are an important part of his life, each serving a different purpose: boxing challenges him to grow stronger physically and mentally, while fishing gives him time to reset and reflect. The combination of the two creates a complete image of someone striving for both control and peace, two qualities that often work hand-in-hand in achieving balance.
What I found most meaningful about his avatar was how personal and intentional each element was. He didn’t just choose random hobbies; he chose symbols that reflect his daily habits and the things that genuinely help him grow as a person. It made me think about how my own choices, like selecting an album cover for my project, reflect who I am, just in a different way. THyde26’s design shows how art and symbolism can capture both the calm and the chaos within someone, and how balance can be found even in contrast.
