Duke Ellington believes, “A problem is a chance for you to do your best,” and I think he meant that challenges aren’t always bad because they give you an opportunity to make the best of it. Instead of seeing it as a problem and something that ruins your day, he’s saying you can use it has something to motivate and push yourself. When something goes wrong, its an opportunity to do the best you can. I believe that problems can create great opportunities for you to learn from and helps you grow. There many times or examples of people screwing up but whats important is going to be how you handle it, are you going to give up? Or are you willing to do what needs to be done in order to get better.
I agree with Duke Ellington because I’ve seen how problems give you a chance to do your best and help you grow as a person. For example first semester of my senior year I got very lazy with work and got behind on English work, like i was struggling with poetry connections, blog post, even finding time to do 15 minutes of Membean every day. I wasn’t motivated and thought it would be easy because of my senior year my failed to recognize how behind I was and because of this i failed eligibility, which meant I couldn’t do sports, which was a huge problem. Because I was lazy i missed out on a portion of my last year of basketball. Because of this, it motivated me to get my work done and stay on top of my work going into the second half of the year.
Or another example i can vouch for is getting pulled over for speeding, i woke up late pretty often and got lazy and was always late to school but I didn’t care and would sometimes have to speed to be on time and because of that my license got suspended and it made me frustrated because of the problem that followed, losing my freedom. Without that problem I would’ve never understood what its like to have to rely on others as much as I am right now whether its for rides to school, the gym, to get some food. And now I can appreciate my friends for always giving me rides and going out of the way and im less likely to speed so much or always sleep in to prevent this from happening again.
`I think Duke Ellington is right because problems help you do your best to learn from them and teach you important lessons. Even though it can be stressful in the moment, it makes you more prepared and stronger for what’s ahead. So instead of running from your problems, you should face them and use it as a chance to better yourself.
