The Many Benefits of Joining FBLA

FBLA, or Future Business Leaders of America chapters have been forming around the United States since 1947. Included in this national organization is our Oak Hill chapter that makes a contribution on a local, state, and national level. A local father-daughter dance is organized each spring to raise money for the RSU4 after-school program, while other fundraisers throughout the year are used to donate to the national FBLA cause, which is chosen each year. This is in addition to the annual calendar auction every November. There are personal perks to becoming a member as well, including chapter trips (by personal finance and fundraising), opportunities to make connections, and obtaining knowledge of business. This year the Maine state fall FBLA conference is taking place for three days in Portland, in addition to a one-day-training in the fall in Augusta. During the spring conference, there is opportunities to win scholarships and various other honors in the countless competitions relating to business.

Our Oak Hill chapter is currently undergoing a winning streak, obtaining the highest amount of awards out of all Maine FBLA for over five years.

There is also the opportunity to attend the FBLA national conference this year in Anaheim, California. To join Oak Hill’s FBLA, and make a contribution to society as well as have a personal benefit, one only needs to show up to a chapter meeting at Oak Hill High School in the business wing. These meetings are announced over the intercom and on the school website (under morning announcements). For further information see Mrs. Roy in the business department.

*”Igniting Innovation” is the national FBLA theme for the years 2012-2013. This is reflected at the state and national conferences. This photo is sourced from the FBLA-PBL official website: www.fbla-pbl.org/
