How to Waterfall Braid!

Waterfall braids are very pretty and give a beautiful effect to the hair. To complete a waterfall braid you should know how to french braid. Once you learn the steps, the braid will be a piece of cake for you! I’ll be showing you how to complete the braid on another person, it is easier to learn when using someone else’s hair.

1 split into 3
Step 1: Take a section from the top of the head, about 1 1/2 inches wide. This piece should be taken directly from where the hair parts.
2 separate 3
Step 2: Split the hair into 3 even pieces, get the comfortable between the two hands, I like to have 2 strands in the left and 1 in my right hand.
3 ross right over
Step 3: Now you’re going to complete 1 stitch of a regular three stand braid. So cross the right over the center and then cross the left over the center.

Step 4: Once the left strand is crossed over the center, you’re going to start your waterfall. When making a waterfall braid, you’re going to drop the right or bottom strand of hair. So drop the strand and either leave it flat against the head or have someone hold it for you.

Step 5: This is where is can get tricky. Once the bottom right piece has been dropped, you’re going to pick up hair. This piece of hair being picked up should be grabbed from under the braid, directly under the piece you dropped. This section being grabbed should be about the same size as your 3 strands. This piece is now your new bottom right piece.

Step 6: Cross the bottom right strand (new hair you grabbed) over the center, make sure the piece you dropped is still hanging and that you didn’t mix it with the new piece.

Step 7: Now like a french braid you’re going to add more hair to the top left strand. The hair you add should come from the part in the hair directly next to where the original 3 strands came from. Then cross the left strand over the center.

Step 8: Repeat the steps 4-7. Add hair to the top left, cross over center, drop the bottom right piece, add more hair from under the dropped piece and cross over center.

Step 9: Once the braid is the length you’d like, you can finish it off with a regular 3 strand braid.

The braid should look like this when it is finished. The hair dropped and causes a waterfall look. The hair can be curled or straightened or whatever you would like done with it.

Once you’ve tried this on other people, give it a try on yourself! Enjoy!
