Life of a Singer

What inspires singers to sing

Some singers start to sing because someone or something inspired them. Maybe they had a family member who sang and they wanted to be like them or they just started singing on their own. At a young age, some parents put their child in clubs, such as a choir to see what they enjoy and what they do not enjoy. Other singers can be inspired by friends and peers. If their best friend is really into singing, they may join too. They gain an interest on it from their friends. There are many stereotypes to singers, especially in high school, so many may join to prove a point. Many times, children grow up listening to music, so they want to be exactly like them. Many singers are inspired one way or another, whether it has to do with family and friends or personal goals.

Vocal Warm-ups

There are many vocal warm-ups out there in the world. Singers have to warm-up their vocals before they sing or perform. Do you think Whitney Houston has a strong voice off the bat without warming up? No, it takes a lot of practice and warming up to get a voice like that. Some warm-ups singers do are things like going from a low pitch to a high pitch and vice versa. Singers also do scale exercises and also hum. Singers practice solfege since all music is based on it. Singers can not learn music without solfege.

Practice

It takes tons of practice to become a phenomenal singer. Singing takes more work than you may think. It is not just learning words to a song and being able to sing it. You have to know how to count music and read it. You also have to know the scales to increase pitch because if not, your voice could crack while performing. You also have to practice performing in front of a crowd to get the nerves out. You have to practice your body language to a crowd too. You can not be hunched over, you want to be straight up. Singers also have to learn to breathe with their diaphragm rather than their chest. This can become very complicated. You can not stop practicing either just like any other hobby or sport, for this would weaken your vocal cords. You would have to start all over again.
