Arrogent

Arrogant,15 year old Connor is a high school jock, he has played varsity football since his freshman year, he is also a workaholic, so the kid always has cash. Although he may sound like an alright kid he has been causing trouble everywhere he steps foot: at school, home, work and at football practice. He has been bullying the underclassmen, anyone not as physically fit as his as well as his older brother, Cam, and Cams girlfriend for everything under the sun. Connors mother Jen, is finally fed up with his actions.

Jen forcefully yells, from across their home, to Connor that she needs him immediately, which is frightening coming from her. I assumed along with everyone else in the house that Connor had made a big mistake. Jen is a fairly small woman, standing about 5’2″, but she is very powerful especially when she is unhappy with her children. Jen is a gentle wonderful woman, until she gets mad of course. Connor did not respond immediately to his mother so she makes the move to locate him. Once she finds Connor in his room she makes it clear to him that it is not time for him to talk, she makes Connor sit down on the edge of his bed and talks to him quite intensely about a phone call she had just received from his football coach. Being in the other room I could not make out everything she said, but what a caught was along the lines of “You will never talk to someone like that again!”, “I cannot believe you think this is acceptable.”, along with many more similar phrases.

After Jen has stated her ideas and feelings to Connor -He decides to speak up to his emotional mother. Connor tells his mother “I was just being funny, no one ever takes those things seriously.”, Jen’s face immediately went straight and stern, she was not a fan of Connors comments so she continues on with her talking to. After about 10 more minutes I hear Connor say “Okay mom, I love you, I promise it won’t happen again.”. Jen replies with “I love you too, if this happens again your phone and Xbox will be taken away.”. Which is a serious threat to a 15-year-old high school boy.

On this beautiful Wednesday afternoon in mid August, Connor has finally, after a long hard couple of years, accepted the mistakes he has made along with the consequences that go along with it. Connors eyes have now opened to see his impacts on people’s lives and is learning from what he has done. He has seen how his words can tear people down, but he has also seen that even if he is just “messing around” it can hurt others. Connor is now not as loud and obnoxious as he once, something major has changed in his personality, he no longer picks people apart like a vulture. Connor understands his mistakes and that not only the direct person is impacted, but also his loved ones. He has not bullied since this day, he apologizes periodically still to everyone he has hurt and explains why he made his mistakes. Mistakes were indeed made but hopefully Connor will grow from this and continue to take responsibility.
