Friendship Contract

Friendship. One word that has one of the deepest meanings. Helping and being there for a friend is one of the more important and binding quality’s an individual can have. If you are a friend, there is no doubt you’ve helped someone else in one way or another. One way I’ve helped a friend is the same way the individual helped me. Basically, we reciprocated the gesture but with a small change on each side.
In all reality, the way she helped me affected my life more than me to her – but we still helped each other nonetheless. Here is what happened; In middle school, roughly seventh grade, I played one sport – basketball. I was reluctant to try any other sport. My friend’s game was soccer. Although we were close friends, it never crossed my mind to try out her sport, nor her mine. It shortly came up that we were going to try each others out. We made a contract out of notebook paper. The rules were simple – I join the soccer team and she joins the basketball team.
By doing this simple, joking around action and creating a contract to play each others sports helped me out in the long run and gave me memories I will always remember. I helped her by making her join a sport we were able to enjoy for a long while together. She helped me out by making me join a sport and team that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
Not only was I now apart of something I love thanks to her, the help didn’t stop there. On the field when I was confused or was not quite doing the right thing, she would be the first one to let me known a supporting way.
Although neither I or my friend continued playing basketball past tenth grade, I would like to think I still helped her discover a fun sport and unveil the natural athleticism that she had for the sport. Also, we were able to go through it together that mutually helped us both. I believe others can take away positive ideas from my experience. It goes to show that if you and a friend make each other stick to something positive, great things can come out of it. What this experience has taught me about friendship is that good friends will always have your back and push you to do great things.
I am beyond thankful for her and all of the help she has given me. This small contract gesture helped form me into the athlete I was throughout high school and this is something I will never forget and I hope that she felt the same help throughout her athletic career.
