Learning Can Be Enjoyable?

Growing up watching football is what sparked my love for the game. When I was younger, Tom Brady was my inspiration. In fact, in like 2010 I was borrowed my Uncle’s old football gear and was Tom Brady for Halloween that year. I knew I wanted to play football but back in the day I was honestly; short, fat, not aggressive, and had very little athletic ability. As I grew older I thinned out, got taller, and became slightly more athletic.

Finally in 8th grade I convinced my parents to let me try it. The coaches had no clue where to put me. If I knew how to correctly get down in the stance I would have been a lineman. I ended up getting tossed into a backup, backup running back position and later in the season played some tight end. I loved it. I didn’t play a whole lot but realized that I enjoyed playing the game of football as much as I did watching it.

From then on, my YouTube searches consisted of football videos. Whether it was highlight videos from the NFL/College ball, the beloved “biggest hits” complications, or just skills videos. I was hooked. I wanted to learn as much about football as I could. Ever since trying on pads for the first time on that hot summer evening in 2014, I’ve always known I wanted to play college football.

I played football for the next four years. All throughout high school. Football also sparked my interest in other things such as weight lifting and personal health. Which I also thoroughly enjoy learning about both of those now as well. It was the training I did for football that made me realize just how much I enjoy lifting also. I’ve gotten to the point where now if I don’t lift in the morning it pretty much ruins my whole day. Once you start seeing gains, you’re hooked. Chances are, I wouldn’t have found my love for lifting if I didn’t play football. It has overall helped me become the individual I am today. Football has changed my life. I have no idea what my life would be like if I never tried the sport in eighth grade. Looking back I wish I had been able to convince my parents to let me try earlier. I wish I had more than five years playing the game I love. Fortunately though, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to play in college. In the fall I will be continuing my athletic career at the University Of New England. Which means even more learning!

I definitely relate to how you started something and found a love for it. Being an athlete as well I found this in baseball as ever since I got my first baseball at the age of three I have loved the sport. I constantly love learning new things about the sport and can not imagine if I had never started playing. That is awesome that you are continuing your playing career and I would love to here more about your journey, and how it continues throughout college.

I like how you shared your insecurities of when you were younger because it shows how you have grown into the person you want to be. It is interesting how you also showed one interest can lead to another interest. I mean how your love of football lead to you liking to lift weights to benefit yourself.

I can relate to this same feeling with lacrosse. I love your use of imagery putting an idea of what you looked like in the past in my head. Congratulations on reaching your goals of playing at the next level, good luck! Well done.

I have the same passion towards lacrosse. although I’ve played lacrosse since I was little I realized my 7th grade year that I really loved the game and wanted to get better. I like that this has sparked you to get in the weight room and start lifting more. Lacrosse and playing in college next year has also made me want to get in the weight room more and learn more about my body. glad football has made such a difference in your life. good luck next year playing football.
