The Flat Tire and One Packed Car

One time a friend helped me, I was driving my car with my friend and we decided to go to New Hampshire and check out the outlets they have their. The way their the drive went off without a hitch and my car was able to make the drive their no problem. We went throughout the whole area and we shopped a lot and had a great time. We then ate and started to make our way back home and the time is around 9pm while we are going home which is a 2 hour drive. Once we get back to the state I hit a lard pothole. I felt nothing wrong with the car still as I was driving. Once I got onto my friends road that wasn’t the best road and dropped him off it only got worse from their. As I am pulling out of his driveway after dropping him off I drove off and all of a sudden I head noses from one of my tires. I got out of my car and saw my tire was completely on the ground and my rim looked like to be flat on one side. It must have been the pot hole we hit on the way back but it must have not done anything until I got on the road. Me being the less experienced driver had only changed a tire by myself before once. I was looking in the back of my car for the jack to raise my car up to change the tire I remembered I loaned it to my mom that had tire troubles. So I called my friend and he said he would be right out. The time was around 10:30-11 and their were two teenagers that were trying to change a tire in the dark and the cold. My friend called his parents just in case we needed help which we defiantly did and they came outside. Luckily they were already awake and they also had a jack. Once that we started taking the tire off things only got worse. the lug wrench I had wouldn’t let me do full spins on the lugs because it would just end up hitting the ground which was very annoying that I had to crank then reset my hands until the lugs were off. In the end we were able to get the tire off not easily though because the tire was stuck for some reason so we had to try and kick it from the back as hard as we could, and then were able to put the dummy tire on. This was the worst car experience I had ever had and it would have been way worse if my friend wasn’t their to help me. Even though we have our differences sometimes I am glad to have him as a friend and without him and his family I would have been their until 2 am trying to change it. So to what him and his family did for me, I am thankful.

The time I have helped a friend is, during football season. Not a lot of people had rides to practices and it was hard for some kids to get to practice. My car being as small as it is it was hard to bring everyone that needed rides to practice. I had had my license at this point for 6 months and I wasn’t able to drive people because I can only drive people other than family after 9 months of having my license. It was 3 of our varsity players that needed rides one of these days and without them we couldn’t have a full varsity practice. So I had to decide whether to bring them to the practice or leave them at their houses and be out 3-4 people at a practice. So I made the decision to help my team. So I went to all of their houses and picked them up and brought them to practice. The frustrating part was they all lived in different parts of the Oak Hill area so It was challenging and I also used a lot of gas but anything for the team. I was able to pick them up and we made it to practice on time. We had a usual practice and then I went home. When I got home my mom came into my room. She had that look on her face where I knew I was in some sort of trouble. My mom looks at me and says, “Did you bring kids to practice today?” I replied by saying “What are you talking about?” She got a message from one of the parents thanking me of bringing them to practice. My mom showed me the message and she said, “You know you are not supposed to drive people. You have lost fun privileges for driving people when you can’t. But I am still proud of you.” At this point I was the most confused person on the planet and I had no idea if she was mad or proud. So i just took the punishment. So I was able to help my teammates get to practice at the cost a lot of gas being used and losing driving pleasure for a week. But in the end, in my heart I knew what I did was the right thing to do. Even if it wasn’t.

I believe that you did an extremely great idea telling the story of how your, what seems like a great friend helped you during this crazy time with the car. Also you did a great thing helping out your teammates get to practice.

I feel as if you did the right thing, and if I were in your situation I would have brought my teammates to practice if they really needed a ride. I also feel you with the car problems, I have had my great deal of issues with cars and they SUCK. Dealing with car problems are the worst, especially on older cars because they feel like they just never end, and its just more and more money out of your pocket each time. But hey, You could have ended it out a lot worse, what if the tire came off like that as soon as you hit the pothole and you had to fix it by yourselves, that would have been even worse.

I’m glad you had someone to help you with that tire. Changing a flat by yourself can be a real pain. Also, I agree with your decision to help your teammates. Even with the punishment, you made the right call.
