Kids should have the same privacy rights

Children should be given the same privacy rights that adults get. This is because how are minors, aka children, ever going to be able to trust anyone if they have no privacy from the time they are born until they are 18? Children should be able to keep their own stuff private without having to hear from adults “you are a child, you do not have any rights to privacy.” While parents may say that because they want to keep their kids safe, they should still be able to make mistakes on their own and learn from them without their parents and or adults invading their privacy. It is the same with doors being locked in a household–why can parents lock their doors? Because they are adults? Kids should be able to have their own privacy and if they mess up, they have to learn from their own mistakes.

Kids should be able to keep their privacy even with parents still keeping them safe because that is possible. Adults saying “we only let you have no privacy because we want to keep you safe” is just an excuse they use because they do not have any real reason to invade a kid’s privacy. For example, when a kid tries to go through their parent’s phone, the parent flips out and says they are not allowed to do that, which is completely hypocritical because after the kids try to do that the parents turn around and say let me go through your phone so why should kids not have the same privacy rights as adults?

The opposing side might say that children should not have the same privacy rights as adults because they are too young to understand their mistakes. While that may be true kids even though they are not that old, kids can identify if something is right or wrong and if they mess up children will always find a way to fix it. So why do children, pre-teens, teenagers, still go untrusted to make their own decisions and not be able to have the same privacy rights?

Children in a household should be able to lock their bedrooms doors if the parents in the house are allowed to lock their doors. Parents tend to contradict themselves a lot by doing the same thing that they told the children not to do and that is why kids rebel, and become sneaky because they have no privacy so they sneak around to make it so their parents do not know therefore they have privacy. This is bad if parents were to just give their children the same privacy rights they have their kids would not have to sneak around and make their own privacy. Therefore this is why children should have the same privacy right as adults.
