Text or Call?

Texting and calling are two easy and accessible ways to communicate with people. I believe they both have their advantages and disadvantages. I feel that texting is a much more casual way to contact someone, and easily forgotten about. I see calling as a much more formal way to communicate and people will remember it, plus it can be easier to express your mood with tone of voice.

I believe people are scared to talk on the phone with new people because they are nervous about what to say and how the other person will react, plus you have to get it right the first time. You can’t type out what you say and delete it like a text. I think people prefer texting over calling because it is a much more laid back, no pressure situation. You can type out what you want to say 100 times until it’s perfect. I think people like texting more than calling because there’s no pressure and very little actual human interaction. Texting also has an advantage because people can see they got a text and respond when they are available. If you call and they don’t answer your only option is to leave a voicemail message and hope they see it, sometimes they don’t even have a voicemail.

I prefer calling, it is a much more direct and clear way to deliver or receive a message. For example, one time I texted my boss explaining I was running a little late because of car trouble, but somehow they misunderstood and thought I was calling out and changed my hours for the week. If I had just called her I could have explained it much better and made sure it was clear.

Calling and texting both have pros and cons. They are both very handy tools that we use everyday and take for granted how easy it is to communicate with someone. I feel texting is good as a reminder or a list so you can check on it, like texting your sibling to feed the dog or sending a food recipe to someone. Calling feels more formal and much more interactive so people will remember the information. Being able to confidently talk on the phone might go a long way with an employer or formal things like college and future careers.

Texting and calling are the two most common and dominant ways of communication. It’s the easiest, most simple way to get a hold of someone. Everyone has a phone and can easily make a call or send a text. The choice is up to you, text or call?
