The Family Man, JYoung98

JYoung98 is a man who loves his family, and he portrays that love through his flag. His flag has 4 items on it and red and white stripes. The 4 items are a yellow flower, which is for his wife’s birth day month of April, a red heart, for his daughter’s birth day month of February, a blue star, for himself with no other meaning behind it, and a green, four-leaf clover for his son’s birth day month of March. The rest of the flag was based on the Washington D.C. flag, he chose this because of the trip he took there with his family, which was a pretty significant trip to him. The flag has four items, from left to right, the yellow flower, the red heart, the blue star, and the green clover at the top of the flag, there are four stripes, in a horizontal position, that alternate from red and white in color.

When initially observing this flag, the first thing to notice was the four items at the top of the flag. This is due to the fact that these items have color and they are random enough to know that they have a reason to be there, just not the reason you would think. The next thing to notice is the stripes, red and white, they’re there, but not as eye-catching as the four items, not as much meaning behind the stripes. But, the most important and surprising thing about everything on this flag is that everything represents his family in some way or another, the four items, each for one of his family members and their birth months, with the exclusion of the star which means nothing to JYoung98 just a representation of JYoung being part of the four people in the family, and the stripes being based on a flag from a family vacation is subtle but clever and a good way to still include family into your flag without having to be all that creative.

JYoung98, as said before, has based his entire flag on his family. He chose the yellow flower for his wife, he said because her birthday was in April, and so he chose the flower because of the old saying “April showers bring May Flowers” (JYoung98) hence the reason his wife is represented by a flower. The red heart was chosen because his daughter was born in February, and because of Valentine’s Day, the month of February, and his daughter is represented by a heart. JYoung98 chose a blue star for himself on the flag, he said “I don’t really know why” (JYoung98) the star is really just a way for him to represent himself in his family. Finally, the four-leaf clover was chosen because his son was born in March, because his son was born in March, and because he felt that a clover represented March, he chose a clover to represent his son. For the rest of the flag, he based it on the Washington D.C. flag, because of the time he went there with his family, it was a “pretty important trip” (JYoung98) to him, plus it works out because the D.C. flag follows the flag rules and is easy to remember.

When creating the flag I made, I chose more materialistic things to symbolize, like plumbing and heating, my dog, my family’s camp, etc. which is still all stuff I care about it’s just not the same type of care as you would for family. Albeit, both our flags were pretty simple, my flag was completely original, JYoung98 after putting the items to symbolize his family, he based the rest of the flag off of the D.C. flag, which probably made it a little easier on him when it came to coloring the flag and just filling out some of the space, and that way you don’t have to think about the actual design of the flag, but I didn’t use colors and that’s how I made my flag easier for me to create. Either way, both flags have symbols with significant meaning to the other person, whether that be family, a dog, or even a hobby, everything has meaning and that is how both of the flags are truly the same, and it also proved how much of a family man that JYoung98 really is.
