Delayed Plane

As an actor, now better with patience. It can take up to a week to find out if you got a part. Present time me is okay with that, and don’t mind waiting. In the past, I wasn’t as patient. If patience was a test, I usually failed it. However, there was one time in particular that really tested my patience. When I was 13 years old, I was on my way back from Virginia. My Uncle lives in Virginia. We wanted to visit my uncle and his family, because it had been a long time. So, we took a four-day trip. The part that tested my patience was the trip back. Our plane was running behind and we were stuck in the airport for over an hour.

To get back to Maine from Virginia. We had to take a plane to Michigan first. Then, we could board a plane to get to Maine. Which I didn’t understand at all. When we landed in Michigan. We were supposed to leave immediately. However, our plane was behind schedule. So, for who knows how long, we would be stuck in the Detroit, Michigan airport. Since it was about 8:00 pm, the airport was like a ghost town. No conversations to overhear to pass the time. It was just my mom, me and a few random people hear or there. Only a few minutes had passed, and I was already bored out of my mind. Every minute felt like an hour. I was ready to find the plane and drag it to the airport. Unfortunately, my mom said that was unrealistic. I looked through my carry-on bag, hoping my iPad was in it. Luck was on my side this time because it was in there, and fully charged. I tried to connect it to the internet, but no luck. So, begrudgingly, I just played some games. That only lasted a half of an hour, before it lost my interest. My patience was wearing thin, and I wanted to go home. I had tried to wish for the plane to appear like Aladdin. That didn’t work, but no surprise there. I paced around that area of the airport. My mom told me that I had to just keep being patient. Though I didn’t want to be, who does? I was exhausted and homesick. Continuing to pace, I noticed a gift shop that was still open. Glad for something to do to keep me distracted, I went inside. I stayed in there until they closed, but I only got a pen that said Detroit on it. Grateful that another half of an hour had passed, I went to secure my new pen in my bag. Collectively, it had been a little over an hour, and still no plane. If I wasn’t already irritated before. I was even more irritated then. To cool of some steam that was started to come out of my ears. I went on one of the moving floors they had in the airport. Somehow, I distracted myself for a little while. While I was in the middle of my magic floor ride, there was an announcement that our plane would be arriving soon. In response, I cheered and got a few stairs from the very few people in my area. Though I didn’t care, I had been patient long enough. Just like the announcement said the plane arrived soon, and I was on my way home.

Having patience isn’t always easy, but it is possible to get better at it. Even though it’s frustrating, annoying, and sometimes tiring. However, good things can come to those who are patient. Even if it’s something as simple as trying to get home. I struggled with being patient. Though, when I got home, I got to sleep on my own bed. Everything was all worth it.
