Just call

Just call, or text in certain situations. While both can be used for good, and also bad. It is important to understand the times and places to use them both. Like when making important work calls versus texting a friend about a party next weekend. And knowing when it may be professional to call versus text, or vice versa. Looking into the future we might also see a shift in perspective, where texting in the professional world will shift to the norm. But we’ll just have to wait and see, as technology and AI seem to be taking paramount.

Now for the good and the bad. When we talk about texting and calling, we like to think of texting as informal and calling as formal. You would never see a job interview over text. Sometimes just texting can also be seen as rude to the other party. But we are seeing a shift in this perspective. We all text our parents, loved ones, friends, etc. When not so long ago it was seen as wrong to just text someone. As people we have shifted, we are starting to see more and more texting for professional activities. While this is seen as an unprofessional way of talking to others, it is becoming more popular. And while most places will still call or even have a sit down interview, sometimes they might even have a call interview. Most places have a way to text the company you are applying for now, which is crazy. While this makes getting a job a lot simpler, it could also be seen as a cop out. Because this means that company hiring isn’t actually looking at the individual, instead they are seeing what they portray over the phone. Which in turn could lead to a higher turnover rate.

While calling in the professional world will probably always hold true. Texting a friend or family member should always stay okay. This is a very quick way to communicate plans and or feelings to a close person to you. But still calling a family member or friend should always be a part of communication. Sometimes it’s nice to hear someone’s voice you haven’t heard in awhile. It’s also the easiest way to catch up with someone, because sometimes you just aren’t yourself in texts. The future also seems promising for calls. It seems that everyday we are trying to get back to our roots, and care more about others. Calling is the best way to show this. It shows that you do truly care enough about someone that you don’t mind sitting on the phone with them. Calling will always be the best way of communicating on a phone.

While texting may become more popular than calling just for convenience sake, it will always be more meaningful to call someone. Whether it be your friend or grandmother, they would much rather hear your voice than some words on a screen. And while the future may not be the brightest for calling, as people search for convenience and not meaning, calling should never be taken for granted.
