Hello my name is Keeghan Morrissette. Most of you guys see or know me as the new kid but I see you guys as a new family. This year has been one the best years of my life from the opportunities Oak-hill has given me to the new friendships I have made. It has made me realize what high school is supposed to really feel like.
When I was in second grade I had to choose what schools to go to and Oak-hill was in there but they were always my rival school or the other side of the coin some would say.So I automatically ruled out Oak-hill, that’s my biggest regret in life. I never came to Oak-hill because I always judged you guys because growing up in sports that what we are taught to do.
I have always lived in sabbattus and I would always go to the settlement to go get breakfast and every time I would see coach Stacen Doucette and me him and my father would talk almost everyday about football and one thing I remember the most is at the end of everytime we talked he would always say “ you will end up wearing blue and red one day.” When I would hear this I would just laugh it off because never in a million years did I think I would come here. But here I am senior year in my life time rival school and it was the best thing to ever happen to me.
The first time I walked into school I thought the first couple weeks were going to be very awkward like a fish out of the water .I walked into school and im looking around dont know were to fully go felt like my backpack weighed a million pounds right when the first person said hi to me everything was so much better Everyone was so nice. People I never met before would help me out because I could not find classes and got lost a couple times but it was chill and I found my way around eventually. First day I met so many new people and that’s when I realized this is the what school is suppose to really feel like.
My first game of the football season because I was not here for the first week of school Oakhill was already 0-1, So I show up on monday and we got are first home game is on saturday and I go out to the practice field and coach pulls me aside and says “ pay very good attention your starting at running back for us this saturday” this was the best news I have heard I was expecting to have to practice for a couple of weeks and slowly start to earn my spot. That week we won the game.During the first quarter I got the ball on the 20 yard line on a sweep I ran it 15 yards can hear all the cheering and can feel the presser of the people chasing me then I score and everyone hears my name get called and I hear a bunch of cheers and yells everyone ran up to me and were so proud of what I had done. I had 160 yards rushing and one touchdown to end the game. The amount of fans, teammates, and coaches came up to me after the game saying good job it just made it feel like I have played here my whole life. I just felt so welcomed. Made me feel like I was earning my stripes.
Now its the end of senior year and this is definitely the first time I have ever said I wish I had one more year because this was the most fun I have had in school, out of school everywhere. I would like to say thank you you guys could have just never helped me out and no care at all but you guys did exactly the opposite you guys cared and helped me a lot because obviously this change was hard but very happy I did the change. And everyday I think back to when I was a kid knowing I could have came here 10 years ago and wishing I choose that path.
