The Biggest Catch

Laughter can cure a lot of problems and can turn bad things into good things over time. This story that I am about to tell is a story about the “big catch”. At the time of it happening we all panicked but now looking back on it, we have a good laugh about the situation. Not all bad things have to stay bad, laughter can cure a lot of problems and bad situations. Over time they can cure like fine wine and age like bourbon.

It’s finally the day we have been looking for all year, Its time to go camping. Every year around the same time the whole family packs bags and we go camping for a week up in the mountains of Rangeley. Before we were about to leave, I thought it would be a good idea to go fishing off my dock. I was only 5 at the time but I remember standing on my dock, casting my little fishing pole into the water. As I’m casting, I put the pole behind me, swing it forward to cast it, and as the lure is flying though the air, it catches me right in the shoulder. All six hooks bury themself right in my shoulder. I start to scream and panic, then my mom comes running down from the house and takes me to my dad to try to get them out.

As my dad is sitting there yanking on the hooks, he starts to see blood, he got light-headed and down he went. My dad faints right there in the kitchen. He had just had surgery a few days before and the medicine that he was on didn’t sit very well with him, so once he saw the blood, all bets were off. So since dad could not get the hooks out we went to the ER. Dad finally had woken up before heading to the ER. We pulled into the ER with a truck full of camping gear and a boat on a trailer. We waited in the ER waiting room for the doctor to come out and remove the hooks. We were only there for about an hour, and as soon as the doctor was done we headed off to camp. As I grew up through the years I became a lot better at fishing and casting a pole.

Now that I’m 18 I can look back at this and laugh every time someone brings this story up. Now that I’m 18 I know how to cast the right way as well. The only other time I have hooked myself was when I stepped on a hook ,so I slowly learning. My dad even laughs sometimes. It was not a laughing matter when it first started but since it’s a long time now since it happened we can all look back at it and laugh and have a good time.

This is a funny story. I like the way you used the comparisons to fine wine and bourbon.
