Talking VS Texting

Almost, if not everyday, we are using our phones to communicate with each other. Whether it be an Iphone, Android, or even a Lan Line, we all use telecommunication in our day-to-day lives. And we all find different ways to incorporate these mediums in our own way to communicate and speak to other people. There are also so many options and choices on ways to communicate with people, you don’t even have to use your phone if you really didn’t want to. We all have different ways of communication in our world and it is our choice to pick what is the best for us to use and what we think we can use to communicate the most comfortably.

There are many advantages and disadvantages to texting versus talking to someone. For a disadvantage, the tone that somebody may have when they are talking is lost entirely when you are texting someone. You can completly misunderstand someone and think they are mad at you just because of the words they are using over text. This doesn’t happen at all if you call someone because you’re gonna be able to quickly hear what their tone is. On the other hand though, texting is far more convenient for quick and fast conversations between you and someone else. Calling someone takes time and some people can’t just call someone, they need to send something that they can come back to. Both of these have their benefits and downsides, it really comes down to who is using it, where they are using it, and why they are using it.

Daily, I see the use of texting and calling, how I use it is completely different to how someone else would use it. I prefer calling someone because I always have difficulties in seeing someone’s tone in a texting conversation. I also just find it easier to say what I want to do instead of typing it out or writing it. When I say something, it is the best way for me to solidify something in my mind to remember and retain it. Personally, in my work environment, I see the use of both texting and calling as tools that my co-workers will use during the day. This contrasts heavily with my personal life, my parents are examples of this. They both like to text more then calling, and it’s only if I am not responding or it is something important. My work and home environment contrast heavily to what I like to do when I am communicating with someone.

I think as I grow older and go into college and other workforces that the expectation of what I should be using for communication will change heavily. It will always depend where I am or what I am doing during that time as to which option I will choose. It doesn’t truly matter what I use for communication as long as I know im articulating what I need to say to someone else in the proper way. In a professional setting, I will be expected and will use texting to communicate quicker and faster with someone. My personal prefrence though will always be calling to communicate with someone, it is much easier to communicate what I am thinking through talking instead of typing it out.
