Hello everyone.
Today I want to talk about one of the most important things I’ve learned while in highschool, confidence is key. Having a weak mindset would not get you through these 4 years. Whether it is getting into a certain college, wondering if you can pass a class, taking AP courses, getting a job, or even just wondering how people are going to perceive your outfit or hair, it takes confidence.
To show up to school, I needed the confidence to do so. It can be hard, worrying about what people around you think. Coming into high school as a shy 14 year old, it was scary, as I can imagine it was for the rest of you. I was taking the most basic classes I could, even dropping art 1 because I was worried about how good my art would actually be. Sophomore year I branched out a little, still being shy and nervous. I took on marketing and personal finance, something VERY different for me. And I finally took art! Now, classes might not matter this much to the rest of you, but at that age, it felt like it was the biggest decision I could make. Junior year I took AP Bio and Chemistry. I was worried every time I stepped into that science classroom. All the seniors knew everything, while I knew nothing. It took so much of that learned confidence to take that class. The test was the hardest. Even though I got a zero, I still did it! I can confidently say I took an AP class! I hope the rest of you can say the same, you confidently did something you never would have thought of doing before. I also got my first ever job my junior year, which was terrifying. But it took confidence to get it. Now finally, our senior year. the last one. I can confidently say that I’ve changed, both in a good and bad way. I am no longer the shy, scared freshman, but a confident senior. I can also say I’ve seen that change in everyone else too. We have all changed and grown in our own ways. The reason we did this was from confidence. Even if you didn’t notice, you’ve probably gained a lot of confidence from these four long years. I will make sure to carry this confidence with me into college and the rest of my future, and I advise the rest of you to do the same. Thank you.
