Jrcrowley26 is now a senior at Oak Hill high school. His avatar has a mostly white background and two equally thick red and blue lines at the top. The two lines covers about half of the screen while the other half is white. The blue line is at the very top with the red line right below it and in between the red blue lines and to the right is the Rod of Asclepius. Coming out of the bottom of the avatar is a light brown sign coming up from the middle with a money bag on it. Before I had known the meanings of his symbols, I could only figure out the obvious symbols such as the money bag and the Rod of Asclepius as the money mean money and the other symbol means medical. I could not figure out the other symbols though. I had thought that the blue line might mean water and that the red line could mean fire or warmth.

When I had asked Jrcrowley26 what the colors had meant and he had said that the colors “symbolizes medicine and are the colors of an ambulance”. He had also told me that when creating the colored one he had ” forgot to add a black line.” I had found this answer quite funny. I was quite curious to find what the reason behind the sign was as I had just though it was to show the moneybag. In his words, “the sign is the only thing I thought of when I thought of protest.” I know Jrcrowley26 but I didn’t know that he was such an advocate of free speech that he would put it on a flag about himself. I had asked Jrcrowley26 “what’s with the medical symbol placement”, as in the Rod of Asclepius, because I had found it to be an awkward placement, But he had told me that it was “convenient placement.” I had also asked him why it was mostly medical, he answered, “I like things medical.” Which is on the nose but I probably should have guessed that.

I was surprised that his avatar was mostly about medicine. I knew he had taken an EMT class at LRTC but I didn’t know that he had identified with medicine so heavily. I was surprised that he had a symbol for free speech because to me, he had seemed to be pretty introverted. I had thought that the sign had no meaning and was there for maybe comedic effect. To find out that the sign had such an important reason was surprising to say the least.

His avatar had less symbols but I felt like it had more important things to say compared to mine. My avatar was about the things I like, such as reading and dragons, while his was about helping others and free speech. My avatar was also pretty abstract and only shapes, while his had almost clear meaning to all of his symbols. Although his avatar wasn’t the most artistically sound, I feel like Jrcrowley26’s avatar is the better one.
