Social media hurts. This is an argument that’s often brought up as of late, the argument of if social media, things like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, help or hurt? But I feel like there is a place and time for each opinion to be right, however more often than not, social media has hurt not only the social skills of people. But also, effort put into something, and the security of peoples relationships and friendships, and the honesty and loyalty of people.
Oftentimes in today’s day in age, when people begin to talk, and get close, they’ll trade information: phone numbers, social medias, something to contact each other outside of the workplace or school or whatever it may be easily, and quickly this is a great ability, and one of the many advantages of our era to have. However, it has its drawbacks.
I find, and have seen, that social media has a tendency to ruin peoples ability to communicate properly, and have lacking in person social skills. People get so used to texting a certain way and acting one way behind their screens, knowing their safe, and the person on the other side can’t see what there doing, wearing, how there acting, anything like that. However when they go to interact with this person in real time, they lack social skills, because they are so used to messaging behind that screen, and they often times become more held back and quiet.
Another drawback of this digital era, is how social media can destroy relationships and friendships, or completely change them as a whole. I’ve seen this happen, and had this happen first hand, someone will act one way in one place, but be entirely different in the other an unfortunate aspect ot the digital age and how social media, Realisticly, has hurt more than its helped relationships and people’s dynamics. The ability to be 2-faced and fake is only made easier through social media as well. Its killed the idea of honesty and putting in effort to a situation. As well as, many will start a situation or argument online, however never say a word to you in person, and give no effort to resolve the problem, social media has an effect where it reduces peoples willingness to put in any effort into a situation, and they become so willing to press block or unadd, and continue on with there day, ignoring any inconvinence they come across.
