I hate social media. I think everything about it is unhealthy and I think every single person on planet Earth would be better off without it. If I could just stop using social media and erase my internet appearance I would. But I can’t.

I mean I could in theory delete my accounts, and erase my media existence. But its not that easy. As a teenager, my entire life is online. My friends, my school, they all exist on the internet. If I were to just erase my appearance, I'd also be making my life alot more difficult. This is why to just disappear, I'd have to do it McCandless style. No human contact, all by myself, me vs me.

If I accomplished getting rid of social media, I truly think my relationships would be affected and not in a positive way. It would be hard to communicate, hard to share thoughts, jokes and ideas. I would always feel left out, always like the oddball of the group.

I guess I relate to McCandless more than I thought because, in different ways, we both find modern life almost corrupting. Him with possessions and me with the media. Maybe we both want to escape the realities we are forced to live with, just in different ways.

I love how you made the connection between your own life and McCandless. My initial reaction when starting to read "Into the Wild" was that McCandless was crazy. He was in such a fortunate position, giving all that up seemed insane. But the truth is, we all have something we can think of that is good in theory, but actually puts so much pressure on us that we just want to give it up.

As a teenager, I also feel the unhealthy habits social media has given me, but it is just too hard to give it up nowadays. Do you think there is any way society as a whole could shift away from being so media centered?

I also agree that I believe that every human would be better without social media. It is frustrating how the government only cares about money, and they won't get rid of detrimental items that worsen people every day. Take cigarettes or vapes, for example, there have been countless studies on how you should not use them because you can get COPD or other lung issues and pass away faster. The companies and higher-ups only care about their paycheck. The same thing goes for social media and the harsh weight for all of us. I guess social media has given lots of people jobs; it’s hard to comprehend. When my parents were my age, there was no such thing as that. Social media has contributed to more depression and social issues. I wish we could just delete it all.

Do you think other people would agree to get rid of social media as a whole?
