The author Jason Reynolds is trying to show the difference between desiree and reality. Throughout the story they narrate their elaborate detailed plan for a sandwich but by the end of the story they arrive home and eat some cereal, “And then Flaco returns from the kitchen with four bowls, a box of cereal, and a half gallon of milk.” ( Reynolds ) The ironic twist at the end of the story shows the reality of their lives and how they dream for more but settle for what they have.

This story relates to my life in a couple ways but one way it relates to it is that I always want to try and make new things but either don't have the right ingredients or I'm too picky and decide that it's gross so I settle for the simple things that I know I will eat, “ “I could go for a sandwich.” “Ooooh, like peanut butter and jelly?” Flaco chimes in. “I mean, that would be fine, but I’m thinking something even better,” Jamal says “ (Reynolds) I relate to this quote because sometimes I want something different but I settle and eat something familiar.

I like how you connected the last quote and the topic being if someone suggests something that's broad, you choose one that you're familiar with. It made me think about how I do this with hobbies or hang out ideas. If someone says something simple like "What should we do?" I respond with things I've done before. A broader reaction of this would be relating it to things other than food like trying new hobbies or meeting new people. Would you ever be inclined to try to train yourself to eat things you don't think taste good at first?
