I think the author is trying to capture the feeling of a day at the pool. To make the reader feel the nostalgic feelings of being with friends and enjoying a nice summer day. Also the way the author describes each friend differently, “‘Shut up, Flaco!’ Big boy snaps– ‘You probably don’t even know what a slug is.’” This quote describes one of his friends to be playful and poke fun, a way to remind the reader of some of their friends growing up.

As a kid I went to the ocean more than I went to the pool. However both had the same feeling when walking back home or to the hotel. The way the ocean absorbs all of the water in your body and you feel like you could drink an entire gallon. The hunger that consumes you and you can’t stop thinking about the cold sandwich waiting for you in the fridge, “Either way, whenever they leave the pool, they’re always empty. Famished.” How limp your legs feel as you're walking, carrying your towels and chairs.

I really like how you talk about your childhood summer experiences. Like how you went to the ocean more than the pool, and even though the story takes place at the pool, you are still able to connect these two experiences. The words you use to describe your experience remind me of when I used to go to the ocean with my family as a kid. It really makes me visualize this memory and takes me back to those simpler times. How this could be put into a broader context is other childhood memories that give off the same sort of feeling, like getting a meal with your sports team after a game, or coming back home after a vacation. I wonder why these moments felt so nostalgic to us a kids? Now I feel like these special core memories dont resonate the way they used to; they are now replaced with other special moments that give off the same feeling.

I loved the way you talked about going to the ocean more then the pool and even though you went to the ocean more then the pool you were still about to connect the two through your experiences. your experiences reminded me of my childhood going to the beach with my family. You mentioned going to the ocean more than the pool. do you think the ocean made those memories stronger or more special for you?
