The Best Decision of My Life

Deciding to play football in fourth grade was one of the best things I could have done. At the time I was hesitant to play because I had been involved with soccer for three years. I wasn’t confident that I had what it took to play football. A handful of people told me how rough of a sport it was and that you had to be really talented to play. It took awhile to get myself to work up the courage to make the switch from soccer to football, but when I did I was amazed by the game. The rules were confusing to me at first, not knowing where the endzone was or where to run when I got the ball. My first touchdown was actually pretty lucky considering I just ran to open space until I heard a whistle. After a year or so I started understanding the sport and really enjoying it.

Throughout the years my skills would improve little by little. Once entering high school, the best moments of my life were on the football field. My love for the sport increased heavily as I grew closer to my teammates and coaches. When playing football, there forms a bond like no other. We tend to call it a “family” or a “brotherhood”. On the field we are not just friends in a uniform. Throughout the season we are a family that gets stronger every day. Together we sweat through double sessions, practices, and games. From June until the end of November there isn’t a day that we take off. All of the hard work we put in through the season, while the special bond we form creates an unbeatable team.

Thanks for sharing your story! I know that if football wasn’t during the same season as soccer I most definitely would have played! I would have loved to play such a popular sport with all of my closest friends but at the same time it would have killed me to let go of my favorite sport. Sometimes I think of what might be different if I decided to play football back then. If I had the money and knowledge I would have played travel soccer and played recreational football, but being a 3rd or 4th grader those thoughts weren’t really crossing my mind. I hope your football career continues to grow and your skill continues to greaten.

This is a great post that accuratly describes what football is like and how much of a family we are. The best decision of my life was playing football and I wouldn’t trade that for the world. What is your favorite memory from the sport?
