You can really tell the signs of a good mechanic is his ability to do body work.

Let’s start from the back bone of the car the roots of all evil.  When you start doing body work the first thing that you need to know how to do is work the sheet metal. When working the sheet metal you want to get it so that it is as flat as possible with no bumps or divots. This allow the ability to use less body filler. Intern gives the car a better look overall.  One that is doing sheet metal work also needs to weld.  This isn’t just any welding either the person doing the work needs to know how weld low heat with small beads.  This is needed when patching holes fixing rust spots or just replacing an extremely dented panels

The next step that every good bodyworker should be good at  is applying the proper amounts and thicknesses of the body filler.  After working the sheet metal underneath you need to mix up your body filler this entails mixing a golfball sized amount of body filler with a pea sized amount of hardener then you thoroughly mix the the 2 to get an activated body filler.  This is where it pays off to be quick.  The body filler is now hardening as we speak and that means we have to apply it to the car.  You apply the body filler by scraping it onto and filling the affected area. Now you let that dry but not all the way.  At this point you wait fifteen minutes and then start sanding.  For this you will want a long sanding block so that you can follow the lines of the car and make the body filler perfectly smooth.  Finish sanding comes next.  This involves a lot of repetition,  You use a piece of high grit sandpaper to get the finish  of the body filler to match the paint and metal below.  This i where it pays to go slow because if you make a mistake than you might end up starting over.  Bodywork is a major part of automotive culture today and it is not only a profession it is an art.
