Resilience

What does it mean for someone to have resilience, “Resilient people are able to utilize their skills and strengths to cope and recover from problems and challenges.” these are our first responders, and soldiers, and the rare few civilians who are the strongest of the batch. What is the most important trait of someone with resilience, Is it Awareness, or the ability to know things don’t always go as planed? In my opinion the most important skill to have is being able to be a problem solver! When you are face to face with disaster, whether it be a storm, a medical emergency, or a criminal emergency, it is very important to have strong problem solving skills. Some people will run and hide, or sit there and stare blankly at the situation because they have no idea how to solve the situation. Yet some will run towards the fire and jump to the call to action and figure out what need to be done right away!

If you want to be the best person you can be and a resilient one, you need to have strong problem solving skills. You need to be able to look far down the road and see the other side and know how to get there step by step. When faced with an emergency Police officers will always develop a plan in their head on how to tackle the situation and make sure everyone involved gets out safe, fire fighters always go into every call with a preset plan in their mind on how to make sure everyone comes home and everyone knows their role. its important to see the finish line.

Resilient people are experts on looking down the road and figuring out the best way to get there, utilizing all their tools and resources to dictate the situation. in the words of our author “Resilient individuals, on the other hand, are able to calmly and rationally look at the problem and envision a successful solution.” If you have the ability to stay calm and think clear than you control the outcome of the situation

Resilient people ” They believe that the actions they take will affect the outcome of an event.” because they know how they can solve it, it’s a strong desire to get to the finish line fast and smart. You can almost always see the end, but the biggest part of being a problem solver is not panicking when things go wrong. Not every plan works out the first try, but being a problem solver is being able to adjust to every situation and know how to adapt.

In conclusion it the most important characteristic of someone resilient is someone who is a problem solver, they will always find a way to get everyone out and safe and still accomplish what they need to. It’s a desire to always finish the mission and do it the most effective way possible.

I am a member of the Sabattus Fire Department and I find it a privileged to work with and see men and women with just resilience and never say die attitude. As a first responder we need to be brave, calm,  and resilient. we need to be able to handle any problem that the job throws at us, and know how to fix whats wrong. If you had to ask me who shows the best example of resilience, I would refer you to the men and women in uniform both home and over seas.

I don’t think that anybody would argue against you with this. Are first responders and military men need to be resilient. It just comes with the job. And when you have a job like that you have to base your whole life around it. But I can tell you already knew that, and i’m glad that you are happy doing what you love.
