Always Close The Door.

So let’s say I’m 6, yeah 6 sounds good. It’s mid April and its been raining all month and today was no different. My parents had left to get groceries and I’m at home watching whatever stupid TV show was on at the time. My cat who hated me with a passion was actually nice to me that day. She snuggled up next to me and to a kid who was scared of his own cat at the time. That must have been like sitting in the electric chair. I figured if I pet the cat it would scratch me. So immediately after thinking that I pet the cat. It didn’t scratch me at all, what a surprise. Things were pretty good for me that day… for about 12 seconds. I was getting bored of TV so I decided to play outside in the rain. I was – (still am) a lazy kid and Just put boots and a jacket on over my pajamas that I had been wearing all day (still do).

I opened the door and went outside. Normal right? Well I forgot to close the door. And as I was playing outside my cat (which has been an inside cat its whole life.) decided to venture outside. It took one step and immediately slid down the steps of my house into a muddy puddle. 6-year-old me thought my cat died from this small slip. I rushed up to it and picked it up. Didn’t look dead at all but it was covered in mud from head to toe. I rush the cat into the house and put it in the bathtub. I knew I had to clean the cat before my parents got home. So I turned on the bath and forced the cat to get clean. It did what most cats do. It hooked onto my arm trying to get out and also eat me at the same time. I screamed… I think it screamed. I grabbed like 3 soap bottles and immediately dropped them in the struggle.

I grab a bar of soap and ironically it’s not the one I drop. My cats actually like pitch black. She was so dark she was actually shiny if that makes sense. And currently instead of being a pitch black the mud made her a weird brown color. I took the bar of soap and started scrubbing the cat like crazy. This only angered the beast. It started pulling its way up my arm tearing apart my coat in the process. It was bout to lose my grip on my cat. And I knew if I let go it would spread mud all over the house.

So I did the unthinkable. The ultimate sacrifice. I dove into the bathtub. Bringing my cat and me under the water. All the mud comes off my cat and I am the one who comes out on top. My parents will never know how. I am the master of secrecy and I am the most tactical person in the world. I looked right to see my mom standing in the doorway. She was looking at me laying down in the bathtub with the cat gripping onto my arm. Turns out I left the door to the house wide open… And the door the bathroom. I got in a lot of trouble and since then I have always made sure to close the door whenever I leave the house.
