Everyone Has A Digital Footprint

Nowadays almost everyone has some form of a digital footprint. Whether that is a digital resume or any number of social medias. These are not hard to come by and you most likely have one. Do note that certain things can be removed but it is important to fully think before you post anything online. You can take advantage of digital footprints and build a positive one for career building and job finding. That is why it is important to build web 2.0 applications, have a digital resume, and avoid having a gloomy social media.

Firstly we can look at our social media and keep them in check. Social media can range from facebook to instagram and to twitter. We want to look at them because what can be a surprise to most, employers will look at them when they consider hiring you. They will check for anything inappropriate and will develop a social media impression upon you. This makes sense because they want their employees to be people they can trust to work for them. So for the reader, make sure you don’t comment, post, or talk about anything unprofessional in the public eye. Students should, “…create or join groups which they are passionate about, highlight their interests and also allow them to network with likeminded people ” (jalger 1). These are good options instead of painting your social media poorly.

Now, more on creating a positive digital footprint. There’s way more you can do on top of avoiding unprofessional things on social media. You can build your social media for your career path. Use resources such as, “…web 2.0 applications like Youtube, Flickr, [and] Podomatic that allow anyone to share videos, images, and audio ” (jalger 1). These can further sensationalize your work. It will make it much easier for people interviewing or scouting you when they can look at a web 2.0 application.

The third piece is to have a digital resume for the same reason you want to use web 2.0 applications. With the world getting more advanced in technology everyday, it is clear that a digital resume is something to have in your arsenal. Getting jobs online can be available with a digital resume. Also, “…if a student wants to get a job in the growing field of digital media or design, then an online resume that showcases their skills and abilities to use different tools could be what gets them noticed ” (jalger 1). It is also an even better look when you work in the technology field and have a digital resume.

Your digital footprint is important to watch. For social media and for jobs. It affects most people since in some form you have a resume and are on social media somewhere. While your social media and resume may look good already, you can still build your digital footprint up with web 2.0 applications. It is important for looking more presentable as a person and worker.
