Social Media, Yea or Nay

Social media is unnecessary, it really is, I mean why would you care about the lives of others?
Now some people may say things like this, it’s to keep in touch with those I know and meet new people, or to know what’s going on in the world, both these points however are crucially flawed. Honestly though the worst of all is when people say they couldn’t live without it, I mean just look back at history towards people living without it.
Let’s start off by discussing the most crucial point first, information. How are people to inform themselves without social media you ask, the news. Watch the news, read a newspaper, go on the internet and search it up. I mean the newspaper has been around for centuries, and the internet while new has more, unbiased, truthful information than a strangers social media. Social media just works as a sort of echo chamber, if you do things with one point of view you’ll just end up getting more things matching your point of view back.
As for meeting new people and keeping in touch, just go outside or call/text. Meeting new people is done simply by going outside, talking to new people, going somewhere you enjoy to find someone who’ll more likely have something in common with you. As for social media however you aren’t really meeting anyone, you’re just looking at the possibly true life of someone you’ll never meet in real life. And when it come to keeping in touch it’s the same, seeing what they’re sharing isn’t actually conversing and keeping in touch, what they’d share for stangers to see isn’t what they’d tell someone who they actually know.
For now my last point as stated earlier, people saying they lose their ability to live without social media, and the idiocy that statement holds. Social media is quite simply, an addiction, saying that you can’t live without something that you can is a clear sign of such a thing. Now, yes I understand that people would also say this about things like cars due to their conveinence. However social media, as I’ve shown, isn’t needed and merely works as an echo chamber thus causing people to get addicted to it.
