Family Feud

Mistakes are made a lot. One time I made a mistake of talking about politics with my family. It was a family BBQ and we were all sitting out on the deck eating, swimming, listening to music and just hanging out when someone made a comment about politics. Politics is a very touchy subject and my family is very much into politics and is it is hard to talk about when people don’t agree with each other. There was nothing physical, it was just people yelling back in forth arguing about who was right and who was wrong and why.
My whole family is very into politics and they all have very different views. My stepdad and his whole side of the family have a more democratic side view of things and me and my mom and her side of the family have more of a republican viewpoint of things. Someone in our family made a comment about something political and it all turned into a big hoorah. Everyone blew up and exploded. They kept going back and forth throwing out who is right and who is wrong and why the others viewpoint is wrong. My family has the political signs out by the of the road, so it is a very touchy subject to talk about. The argument probably lasted about 10-15 mins of them just going back and forth at it. It was very interesting to hear what everyone had to say and how different everyone thinks and how different their opinions are. I just sat there in shock, I had never seen my family like this before. I wasn’t the only one though. My aunt, uncle and a few others sat there in shock to and didn’t get into it either. All of us who didn’t get into it just sat there and watched it unfold. No one has ever fought like that.
In the end, things ended when my stepdad spoke up and said something. He told everyone to just stop talking about it and there was no need to fight and argue because we are all allowed to have our own opinions and beliefs. As soon as he spoke up everyone stopped and we changed the subject to talk about something else. I learned from this that even though you are family and we all have different opinions, that people take politics very seriously and it can lead to arguments, so it is best to just keep it to yourself and not bring it up or talk about it as people get very heated and defensive. It felt kind of awkward as all of that had happened because that has never happened before and like no one was agreeing with each other. We got talking about a different subject and things changed and everyone was calm and happy again. My whole family learned real quick to never make that mistake again.

Oh my lanta!! This is definitely the most relatable thing I have ever seen. 2 things to never talk about in public; religion and politics, I have learned that the hard way many times and not to mention I do not really care about politics but everyone else seems to care immensely.

Oh my gosh this happens in my family all the time. My dad is very opinionated about anything and everything. We brought it up a couple years ago at thanksgiving dinner and he went crazy with his little sister my aunt. They went back and forth talking about this and that which none of it matters anyway. I love the story very descriptive and I can relate to it.
