family time

One of the funniest things of my childhood was when my mom forgot my brother at Bucky’s after one of my softball games. My mom juggles a lot of things and she has forgotten stuff before, but never one of her children. Until that day that is. I can’t remember how old I was exactly, but my brother was in high school. My brother is autistic and had some behavioral issues so my mom couldn’t leave him home alone. He often came to my softball games and either helped coach or worked the snack shack. This particular day he worked in the snack shack. I played my game & packed my catchers gear up & got ready to go home. My mom was talking to a few of the other parents & told me to go out my stuff in the van. After a few minutes of her chitchatting, we jumped in the van to head home. At this point, I notice my brother wasn’t in the van & my mom was already beginning to pull away. She approached the exit of Bucky’s field & I asked her if she was forgetting anything. She repeats to me that she has her chair, she has her phone, and that I put my cat her bag in the van already. She begins to pull away & I say “How about your son?”. My mom laughed so hard she cried. She couldn’t even talk. I really thought this would be the time she pee’d her pants laughing so hard. She turned around and went back to pick up my brother. To my knowledge that was the first, last, and only time she’s ever forgotten any of us. This is just one of my childhood stories that I really remember well, up to this day.

As far of traditions we do not do much. We always get calendars for Christmas every year as long as I can remember. Also for Christmas, we watch the Christmas Story all day. My dad and I have a Madden contest the day of the Superbowl but other than that I do not think we have traditions in my family.

I love this. This is a funny story and I feel bad laughing a little because I could only imagine what was going through his head. I also can relate to this having 9 siblings all step and half, there is also someone being forgotten or left behind.

This is just too funny. I can’t even imagine what it must’ve felt like to be your brother! Moms tend to be forgetful sometimes, they have a lot of responsibilities to balance. I hope it didn’t happen a second time!
