Real Life Strikes

Mrs. Chick and the class of white 2, thank you for having me today.

First off, I’m sorry to break it to you, but high school is not like what we see in movies. If anything it’s the complete opposite. They have delicious looking food, good friends, and these romantic relationships. Well, there is no delicious food, perfect rom com relationships or even friendships that last a lifetime in real life.

High school is a wake up call. Everything changes in the blink of an eye.

It’s the first day of freshman year and you walk into high school. You’re excited and nervous at the same time. You search for your first period class with your so called friends. All you care about is being the popular kids and fitting in. Later that year, you realize that they’ve changed and became friends with other people. This is when everything starts to change. Your friends, your personality, and the amount of Membean minutes still due. When summer comes around maybe you still hang out with some of your friends and space away from the others.

As sophomores we adjust to the high school life and become upperclassmen with more status. Some people care about having a lot of friends, and others are okay with what friends they still have. Friends are like birds, they come and go as they please, but only if you let them. With that there can be more drama because apparently sharing friends isn’t the cool thing to do.

Eventually this goes away by junior year if you’re lucky. The drama slows down, but there can still be some bumps in the road. At this point in life you can meet new people from different schools at LRTC. For every person this is different because only so many students can get in. As a junior in high school the amount of friends you have can be a very little amount or a very big amount. By this time in life no one really cares about how many they have. The less friends you have the less drama there is.

The years go by so fast that eventually it’s already your senior year. By this time everyone has changed for the better or for worse. Your life have gotten busier and your time for getting stuff done has gotten shorter. You don’t have time for a lot of friends because by this time you are just trying to graduate.

High school shapes you as a person and how you are with your friends.

Over the years I’ve realized not to change for anyone. Everything around you may change, but always be the you that you know. It is better to be yourself than to be someone you are not. Don’t try to please others because then it ruins who you are and makes life a lot more stressful than it already is. Although, I have tried to change to be a better person for others, it never worked because one person would still be mad. Let others accept how you are and if they don’t like it they can leave or you can kick them out the door.

The same goes for love and relationships. High School has definitely taught me a lot about relationships at this time in our lives. What person wants to stay in a relationship when they are being told what to do and what not to do. We are not 3 years old. We are old enough to make our own decisions. Sometimes letting someone tell you what to do is just easier, but then you are just being controlled. When this happens something needs to change real fast. Or even the relationship will just change all together. Sometimes love just fades away and there is nothing anyone can do about it. This being said, I think we should all be excited and willing to experience the differences of relationships after high school rather than in it.

Next, never eat school lunch. Who wants to eat a lunch that is cold, half frozen, moldy, hairy and has no flavor? On top of that it isn’t enough to fill any human being. It will leave you hungry and searching for more food. Especially, if you have no money in your account if you end up having to eat it. The portion sizes are fit for elementary school children, but not growing high schoolers. Also, the amount of food on the menu is limited to lunch ladies choice, salad bar, and a wrap. I mean,   come on, middle school lunch was way better than what we have. Sometimes it would be cold or have a piece of hair in it, but at least we would get a whole new meal to replace it. In high school that doesn’t happen. You either pick the hair out and eat it or go hungry. That being said, always keep your standards higher than Oak Hill High School’s cafeteria lunch.

When it comes to deadlines for standards that we have to meet there are none. Well, there is some, but no student really gets their work in on time. Your teacher will tell you that something is due on a certain day by a certain time. That is something that high school students almost never pay attention to. It is more like do the work on your own pace and if you fall behind it’s on you. Teachers will not tell you to get your work done. They don’t hold your hand like you are in elementary school and do it for you so that it’s finished and in on time. It teaches you to be responsible.

Through all of this I have learned to be persistent and never give up when everything is changing.

This was amazing to read, I was really engaged into it. Showing how much high school can change throughout the years, it shows a lot. I wanted to keep reading this. I can relate to this a lot. Good job!
