Chat me Later!

In today’s online age, we are more connected than ever before. With smartphones and other mobile devices, we can communicate with people anywhere, at any time. But how does calling and texting affect daily activities? How could it change in the future? Texting and calling are two popular methods of communication, but they both have their advantages and disadvantages.

One advantage of texting is its convenience. Text messages can be sent and received quickly and easily, without the need for a phone call. This can be especially useful in situations where a phone call might not be possible, such as when in a noisy-crowded area. A good example would be your mother keeps calling you but you are in class and you cannot answer the call because it would be disruptive, so instead you send a message to her saying: “I am in class, I will call you later”. This is a silent way to communicate without being disruptive to others. This is helpful because you are able to keep your conversation private without others around you listening in and without distracting others.

However, there are some disadvantages to texting as well. For example, it can be difficult to read tone and emotion through text messages, which can lead to misunderstandings and miscommunications. Sarcasm is one of the hardest tones to read over text. Luckily, emojis can help distinguish that. Texting can distract you from daily activities, such as driving or work. People are often tempted to check their phones throughout the day. Texting and driving is illegal and causes many people to face unfortunate circumstances everyday.

On the other hand, calling has some obvious advantages over texting. One of the biggest advantages is the ability to understand tone and emotion through voice, making it clearer and easier to communicate. Phone calls can be faster and more efficient than texting, as people can communicate information quickly. Most people’s phones ring or vibrate making them aware that someone is calling.

Despite its advantages, calling has its set of disadvantages. Phone calls can be intrusive and disruptive, especially in public spaces. Calling takes longer than texting, as people are more likely to engage in conversation rather than texting the information.

In conclusion, both texting and calling offer different advantages and disadvantages when it comes to communication. While texting may be more convenient and less intrusive, calling offers clearer communication. The choice between texting and calling will depend on personal preference and the situation. Technology is evolving everyday and smartphones are adding new features like Facetime and Group calling. I think different ways to talk to people will expand people’s relationships and allow for new innovations.
