One Expensive Mistake

What is one expensive mistake. An expensive mistake of mine that I never would have imagined was purchasing my truck. A little background to this story, ever since I was young I always wanted a diesel truck, it was a big dream that I always wanted to make happen. Not sure what started the interest or why I was so intrigued by vehicles but that is all my mind was ever on. Diesel trucks in particular were my main focus, I always told my mom I would have one when I got older and from there it started. Here I am now 18 years old, driving a diesel truck like I have always wanted. Was this one of my smartest decisions? Absolutely not. I was 17 at the time, driving a pretty cool Jeep that I one day decided to sell to go out and buy my truck, I had many second thoughts about doing so and should have trusted my gut. This is where one expensive mistake was made.

An expensive mistake I made led to many takeaways. The main takeaway I took is don’t make impulsive purchases just because you want it, I say this because I tend to be so worried about getting something that I forget to look at the small things because I rush my decisions rather then stepping back and thinking about the outcomes. Why was that such a takeaway for me? It was a large takeaway for me because it was the root of my very expensive issues, I knew the truck wasn’t perfect but there were many small imperfections that I chose to ignore rather then stepping back and reconsidering. The small imperfections that at the time I thought would be a easy fix ended up leading to a engine out rebuild.

Lessons that were learned from this impulsive mistake almost outweigh the mistake itself. Not only did I learn to step back and not get so distracted with eagerness but I also learned how to diagnose and repair an engine that I knew nothing about beforehand. Why does this outweigh the mistake? I believe it outweighs my mistake because not only did I expand my knowledge but I also developed a new income. Rebuilding my truck engine was very out of my comfort zone because I knew nothing about that specific engine but I figured I could use knowledge from others and make it work. Im glad I took the risk because I am now able to help people out with issues but also able to pay it back by developong a clientele. Another lesson that was learned is to respect and maintain your daily driver. Doing this wouldn’t have completely dodged my bullet because no matter what it was inevitable but the longevity could have been increased a longer amount if I wasn’t so rough on it.
