Upside down

Every 4th of July, my family and friends go up to camp to celebrate and have a good time. Camp is in Hartland Maine, and is owned by my grandparents, Camp has always been a special place for the family. It’s always something I looked forward to as a kid and something I still look forward to today.

Fireworks are always a huge part of the 4th of July, so as a tradition, all the guys packed up in the truck and went to get some fireworks. Right from the start there were complications up there the closed fireworks store was just under an hour’s drive. We got there and quickly realized trying to get fireworks on the 4th of July wouldn’t be as easy as we thought. The store was very small with little to nothing left on the shelves. So like anyone as determined to get fireworks as us, we drove to the next closed place another half hour away. Luckily this place had everything we could have dreamed of, nothing is better than being a kid in a fireworkstore. We rapidly picked out as many things as our dads would let us get. With bags filled with fireworks, we drove all the way back to camp to get ready for our fireworks “Extravaganza”. With the arrival of Camp, we unloaded the packed truck lining up bag after bag of fireworks on the deck. Me and my friends patiently but eagerly waited for the time, Once the sun disappeared under the horizon it was show time. We loaded everything up onto the four-wheelers and side by side drove to the open field where everything could be done safely. We then set up the fireworks on a big patch of dirt, only using our flashlights for light we double-checked everything to make sure no mistakes could happen. It was finally time, we lit the wick and ran, standing back to watch these amazing explosions of color. The rapid sequences of these explosions were incredible, the climax of these fireworks only lasted about 10 minutes. The whole family and our friends cheered when the color stopped lighting up the sky. When we were again surrounded by darkness we went back over to the dirt spot because we had one more surprise. We had a tube about 3 feet tall and these ball-shaped fireworks with a little box on the bottom. You’re supposed to light them and then drop them in with the box facing down, and then they shoot up in the air super high and make a huge explosion. So we did and it was amazing while it lasted. They were really easy to light and drop in so we asked if we could do them and our parents let us. So we each grab a ball and one by one light and drop them in. When it came to my friend we did the same producer but he dropped it upside down. As we were running back to see the display we heard it go off, we turned around but there was nothing to see. Next thing we know we are inside a big bright red, orange, and pink firework. Opening my eyes it was even cooler than watching the fireworks when they are in the sky, it was an indescribable experience and I will never forget it. Our hearts beat harder than ever, are parents checked on us luckily everyone was okay, but that will be the last time we ever do those types of firworks.
