Seen Through One Paw

SBlais26 is someone who is outgoing but also laid back, not just as a classmate but also a person in general. She is someone who you want to be around. She is a great friend. SBlais26 captured herself really well with her avatar. Her avatar is something that invokes happiness and nostalgia.

A quick glance at SBlais26 avatar you will immediately notice the brown dog paw. This was based on her love for dogs. Especially her dog Gracie. Within the dog paw are two black circles, which are Mickey Mouse ears. Disney is something SBlais loves as well since she went there when she was little. The main thing associated with Disney is Mickey ears. Residing in the paw above the two circles is a small yellow ghost: the Snapchat logo. Her reasoning for choosing Snapchat is, “being able to connect with people I can’t see everyday”. The toes on the dog paw are some things that represent SBlais26. There is one “normal” toe while the others are different symbols. On the far left is the normal toe, the one next to that is a macaroni noodle, an elbow noodle commonly used in mac and cheese. The next one is a small vertical rectangle that is split in half horizontally. The top half is a light tan color and the bottom part is orange. This is a softball base. A sport SBlais26 has been playing since she was eight years old. The last “toe” on the far right is a small red box. This is to represent a chicken nugget box and her favorite condiment, ketchup. I wanted to know why she chose chicken nuggets and not something else and SBlais responded with “I could eat them everyday”.

What caught my attention was the interesting shaped dog toes. They weren’t the normal oval/circle shape. But a noodle, rectangle, and square. The noodle caught my attention because I wasn’t aware of SBlais26 like mac and cheese enough to incorporate it, but her reasoning for choosing the noodle was that she “just likes food”. When asked why she chose the softball base it was because she’s played for about 9 years now. She has more of  a connection to that then she does field hockey, which she also plays. Last season SBlais position in softball was second base. She has been playing second base since she started softball.

SBlais26 and I had similar ideas when creating our avatar. We both wanted to capture things that represented us but things we also enjoyed in everyday life. While she incorporated more food into hers and things that would give her nostalgia, I only incorporated things I enjoy doing. Watching baseball, reading a book, scrolling through Insta, watching TV/helping with drama. Another thing we did differently was SBlais kept her colors simple and only had a few, while mine had more colors and was more vibrant.
