Echadburn26’s avatar is a black rectangular frame, filled in by a dark purple rectangle, that’s segmented into 6 smaller horizontal rectangles, by thin black lines.

At first glance, I was confused, if I’m to be honest. I thought maybe it was a portal from Minecraft, or something similar. And then I started looking closer and noticed the 6 black lines across. At this, I was even more confused, but then began to wonder if it was meant to symbolize an instrument, like a piano, or a stringed instrument, and i wasn’t necessarily wrong with this assumption, as it pertained to music, but rather than it symbolizing an instrument itself, it was meant to represent the Spotify logo. When asking why purple instead of green if it was supposed to be the Spotify logo, Echadburn stated, “I was looking for green, but there was none, so I used purple”. I think the use of the purple instead of the green, may have been out of replacement for the green, yes, but I also think that the purple on the black background pops in a way where it’s more attention-grabbing, and to see the smaller details, like the horizontal lines, you do have to look closer, and actually pay attention.
I find my process was similar to Chadburn’s, as I took something, a very basic symbol of something, and put it on a basic background, not for any specific reason, but simply because I liked the thing, and because it felt like a relatively obvious element to include and make my avatar be able to be understood more easily. I think our process differs, however, in the way that she chose the Spotify logo to copy because she liked music, something very clear and easy to understand. I went with 3 dice on a background to symbolize games, not anyone in specific, but just because many games of all types, whether it’s a board game, or a virtual or online game, often or very commonly use or involve dice to play the game.
When asking why Echadburn chose to make a Spotify logo variant as the avatar, she said, “I just like music.” and as a follow up to that i asked, if there was a favorite song or artist, to this i was told there was no favorite artist necessarily, but she had liked and had been listening to often “a song called normalcy by Gigi perez.”.
