What is digital foot print? A digital foot print is a person’s online activity basically. which is what they post, search, and watch. Why is someone’s digital footprint so important though? and how can it affect someone in a negative or positive way? we will be figuring that out!

Someone’s digital footprint is extremely important if the person wants to get a job or go to a good college. A great example of this that is shown in article 1 is when the article talks about how people’s digital foot print is becoming increasingly important nowadays “A person’s online footprint is becoming an increasingly important part of their online brand. It makes sense that people should be promoting their brand (name) in a positive light. If someone is working hard, being creative, helping others or receiving awards, then surely promoting these skills and achievements online is a good thing”(Jalger 22-25). the quote shows how peoples digital footprint is becoming more important and it shows how some people may show their positive foot print. a positive digital footprint is when you show positive attributes through different ways . You could also have a negative digital foot print which is when your digital footprint has negative qualities, it’s something you definitely want to avoid because it will create a bad image for you which could make it harder to get a good job and/or go to college. But how do you show a positive digital footprint and how do you avoid a negative digital footprint?

There are many different ways to create a positive digital footprint for yourself. A good quote that shows this is when article 1 talks about how you can blog to create a positive footprint “Blogging is an excellent way to showcase your interests and skills online. Attaching your name to engaging blog posts shows you’re passionate about a topic and can display your communicative skills” (31-33) this quote shows how blogging can show how passionate you are about something can help you create a positive foot print which could lead to you getting a good job. You could also create resumes online to help create a positive footprint. A good example of this is shown in article 1. It talks about how making and practicing digital/ paper resumes can help show a positive foot print. “It’s important to get students thinking about and practicing digital resumes as well as the traditional paper resume. Especially if a student wants to get a job in the growing field of digital media or design, then an online resume that showcases their skills and abilities to use different tools could be what gets them noticed.” (47-50). This quote shows how resumes can help you out with your digital footprint by showcasing your skills and abilities. There are many ways to avoid a negative digital foot print, for example you should avoid posting negative or harmful things on social media because it will lessen your chances of getting a job or even going to college since they do not want a bad reputation. A good example of companies not wanting a negative representation is when article 1 talks about how companies pay people to post good comments about their companies to suppress the negative comments “These companies work with small businesses or even individuals and suppress negative comments, bad photos or negative feedback.” ( article 1 2-3). This shows how companies avoid having a negative image, this is why it’s good to avoid posting negative or harmful things on the internet.

As stated above, your digital footprint can reflect many different aspects of you, even the bad ones, it can show how intelligent you are, your personality, creativity and much more. which can lead to jobs wanting to hire you or colleges wanting you to join them. You should always try your best to have a positive digital footprint and always avoid having a negative digital footprint.
