Texting has various advantages. Personally I don’t enjoy talking on the phone, and often find that the goal could’ve been achieved much easier through a text. Calling takes time because you have to open your phone, go to your contacts, find who you’re trying to call, call them, then if they answer you have to explain your situation and give reason for your call. This is flawed for many reasons. I believe calls are inefficient and a waste of time.
I would hope most people are able to type words faster than they are able to speak them. This already makes texting a faster option. When you send a text, it’s guaranteed the person will see it when they check their phone. When the person reads the text, they will understand the situation right away when it is convenient for them to handle it. Calling a person out of the blue contains uncertainty and can create a perilous social environment. It is safer and easier to send a text. No matter how urgent you think your problem is, do not call.
The biggest issue with phone calls is that it’s mostly lazy people who like doing them. It’s not difficult to type, and I believe the entire system for phone calls should be eradicated and our only communication should be texting. Texting is an amazing thing. When I see the message, I immediately know what it’s about, therefore I can make the decision if it’s important to react to or not. There is always a false sense of urgency when you’re phone starts ringing. Getting a call leaves the thought of “Oh this must be important if they’re calling me” in your head every time, so it’s extremely disappointing and a waste when the opposite comes true. Some people may argue that if it is an important matter, phone calls are appropriate and should exist, this is false. In a situation that is actually dire, adrenaline should be pumping, meaning there’s no time in your life that you will be a faster at typing. My remedy for the issue regarding people not paying attention to their phones is for people to simply start paying attention. As a human you know crazy things happen and you know your phone is the thing that saves you, why you wouldn’t always be paying attention to it is beyond me. If you’re in a situation where it’s not practical to pay attention to your phone, it’s not like you should be answering phone calls during that time anyway.
Now let’s say you’re a person with minimal limbs, or some other issue that hinders you from being able to properly/efficiently send texts. You might think, “Oh it’s fine i’ll just call” no. That is not gonna happen. What’s gonna happen is you’re gonna have to overcome this challenge, and prove you are stronger than life and won’t let negative things get in your way of being a capable human being. However if that’s still too much, most phones have a speech to text feature, so you can speak to your phone and it turns it into a text. The world would be a better place without phone calls, and I would love never having to pause my music for another phone call again. Even in real life it’s usually not important enough for me to pause my music when people talk, so why should I be forced to when it’s not even in person?
