Patience means that someone can stay in one spot and wait for something without getting angered. It requires self-control, even when the wait is long.
As I recall, I was patient one time when I went to the ER for a heart problem. I got home from school one day, and around 2 hours later I could feel my heart beating extremely fast, almost like I had just ran a marathon. I also felt extemely sick and appeared pale. I did not want to go to the ER because I knew the waiting times would be long, and I do not like hospitals. However, as I felt worse, I decided I would have to go if I wanted to feel better. I got dressed and my sister and I drove to the ER.
When I arrived, I got checked in. 20 minutes already passed by because I arrived at 10:00 PM and got done at 10:20. I bought a drink from the vending machine and sat down. I waited at least 25 minutes just to get the initial check-in, where they took my weight and blood pressure. That took about 15 minutes, and by the time the initial check-in was finished it was already 10:55 PM.
After my checkup, I sat in the waiting room for around 2 hours and 30 minutes because the ER was so packed, and in my case I didn’t take priority. Eventually, my nurse comes out and they took my heartbeat. She realized that my heartbeat was showing signs of irregular rhythm, maybe arrhythmia. Because of this, they started taking tests like an EKG, Chest x-ray, Bloodwork, and other tests that I can’t recall the names of. Each test took around 5-8 minutes, so altogether took about 15-25 minutes.
After the tests were done, I started waiting for the results. About an hour later, a nurse came in informing me that the test results haven’t even been examined yet and havent even been put in yet, meaning it would be another hour wait. I waited, she was right. About an hour later, a doctor walked in and informed me that I may have sinus arrhythmia or tachycardia. They weren’t sure which one it was, so they had me wait for a few more hours to get my discharge papers. By that time, it was around 2:30 AM, and I was tired. I went home and slept.
The next morning, I realized if it wasn’t for my patience, I would not have been diagnosed with tachycardia or irregular arrhythmia, and I would’ve still been in the dark about what’s going on. After this experience I saw that having patience is important because without it you, often move farther away from whatever it is you’re trying to find out and or do.
All in all, patience is crucial because it teaches all of us that yes its a long wait, but the end result will be far greater then the result if you weren’t patient.
