In the book All my Rage by Sabbaa Tahir, Noor and Salahudin are family friends who had a big fight. As the book tells the story of them their dearly loved auntie dies and shatters both of them. Salahudin struggles with his father, has alcoholism and has no one to turn to.

In the ted talk How Using Perspective Transformed my World it's about how something changed a man's perspective. The man was a doctor and didn't know how to save a dying baby and when he had to let the family know he noticed his own pastor was there as their pastor. This changed his perspective because he didn't realize these people were this close in his community. It made him realize you never know what people are going through no matter how close they are to you. “He taught me that using perspective to shape our understanding rather than relying on perception, we can change not just our lives but the lives around us.” This ted talk relates to my book because their auntie dies which changes their perspective on life. They have to learn how to live without her and how to cope with her loss. “But she doesn't see me anymore" (Tahir)

Is there something that happened in your book that changed your main character's perspective in life?

In my book Brighter than the sun by Daniel Aleman, Sol my main character is from Mexico, and she used to have to cross the border everyday to go to school in the U.S. She always met up with a Mexican boy doing the same thing and his name was Bruno. They were friends for a while, and one day they were in the lunch line and a guy named Jack who’s from a wealthy family who lives in the U.S. started a fight with Bruno, and was telling him that Bruno would just stab him like he did in the other school he was in that he got kicked out of. Bruno punched him and they got into a fight, and they had to go to court. People were trying to get Bruno kicked out of school, so he needed someone to testify, someone who was there. Sol was there, and eventually testified for him, and got him to be able to come back to school. Her whole perspective was changed once she helped Bruno, she realized that even when Bruno was going through a hard time, she could also overcome her troubles too. A quote to show the relief after the trials in Sol, “All that really, truly matters is the energy in this little corner of the parking lot, the sound of the loud voices all around me, the pure relief swelling inside my chest” (Aleman 312).

Yes. In North of Happy by Adi Alsaid, a major turning point is when Carlos’s brother Felix dies. Before this, Carlos believes his life is supposed to follow a planned, safe path set by his parents, even though he secretly wants to be a chef. After Felix’s death, Carlos starts hearing Felix's voice in his head, which pushes him to take risks and question the life he is living. “I started thinking maybe I had been living the wrong life.” (157, Alsaid). This changes his perspective because he begins to realize that life is short and unpredictable, so he should stop living only for other people’s expectations and start making choices for himself.

amelanson27: In my book Strike Zone by Mike Lupica there is a family that is from the Dominican Republic. Nick is the main character, and he plays baseball. Nick is afraid of being deported because his parents are not here legally. The only thing that is stopping the main character from pursuing what he would like to do is the fact that his family is illegal and not supposed to be in the United States. Nick's parents are also not legal citizens so they are afraid of walking or being around people and work off their kids because they are legal. He has faced having to deal with ice agents but it didn’t change his perspective on life just a different perspective of ICE, “But when he turned this time, the ICE Man ran after him.”(Lupica 122)
