A Junior in a Senior World

I wanted to get ahead, I wanted to be done yet still enjoy the benefit of being with my original class. Let me tell you what getting ahead has gotten me extra stress, a bad grade and being told that getting ahead may not work. As a stressed out over achieving (well normally) junior in high school, that is not what I want to hear. I have thrown myself into the senior world, senior english that is. An all for what you ask, I’m asking myself the same thing.

It isn’t bad enough that there is a senior countdown, or cases of senioritis for which the only known cure is graduation, or the the fact that they know I’m stuck here while they are ending their high school careers. They sit in class, with a substitute teacher, and talk about how graduation is around the corner and what they are going to do to before they leave for college or military life. While I get to sit here, trying to work or just laughing along with them. Almost acting and dreaming that I am one of them. Yet when facing cruel reality I have at least another whole semester ahead of me.

This is when the whole life isn’t fair speech is supposed to come into play. But the way I see it, some of the seniors deserve to have those moments of just bliss sitting in class knowing that the days are numbered. Some seniors deserve to slack off because they have been working their butts off for those moments when they can just be lazy. Some seniors deserve these moments. These moments are small and fleeting so they should take them while they get them.

Honestly I think I am only having this epiphany because, my senior year is right around the corner. The way I see it, as soon as the seniors of 2014 have their last day they are done and my class is moving in. It is super exciting and kinda scary all in one. No one really knows what to expect. So I say give the seniors a countdown, no snow days and, a few days with a substitute to slack off. They have earned all these rights. I won’t want people complaining because I have put my time in and am about to be set free.

Love this post, especially because I am 100% able to relate the stress-fullness. Being only a junior as well, I have the stress of 8 classes while I hear others stressing over 2 classes. Even though I am graduating a year early, and even though I did choose to do so, it doesn’t take away the amount of stress and hard work that has come with it. Great job on this piece, I was able to relate to my own situation.

Some of us deserve those moments of slacking off and sitting back because you’re right, some of has have worked our butts off the other 3 years, but sadly, it just doesn’t work that way. It is the last year, and it’s when things get real, and when a senior really has to battle their inner self to just do the work. Some may have the right, but in a real world will they? I’ve slacked off the most this year while still managing to keep my grades up, but even then, I tell myself, “Yes Miranda, you have worked your butt off the other 3 years to have an easy senior year that you never have, but that is just how life is.” On a little side note, if I had the chance to graduate last year, I would’ve of too, and give yourself props that you tried, and may be still trying because senior is really challenging, so be proud of yourself!

I agree with your point on being able to slack off. Even Though I have not worked my butt off as much as other seniors I still have put up with almost 4 years of school work and people. I have never failed a class and I am on track to graduate. Seniors have done everything they need too and not having to make up snow days in a nice small reward. I hope all of the seniors to come injoy their days of bliss while the rest are filled with stress.

I can completely agree with you and the stress of being a junior in a senior class. It’s always weird because I never feel like I’m supposed to be there, like I”m some little kid even though there is only one year separating us. By the looks of this article I would say you are doing a wonderful job in Senior English, even as a Junior! Keep up the good work, you’re almost there! 🙂

I can’t imagine what the stress for someone trying to graduate early is like. I’m sure it is not that much different then someone who has slacked off for the past 3 years, but it still must be very hard to make sure you have everything done and in on time with twice as much work. Keep working it’s almost all over!

There’s a lot of stress when it comes to both senior year, and junior year. You have to deal with the stress of both years. With senior project and the s.a.t’s. It is easy to slack off when you have things that you could be doing instead of your school work. This was a great piece.

I love this ! there is so much stress during senior year its hard not to get a case of senioritis, but it shows how much hard work you yourself have been putting in, not only us seniors but the underclassmen that see and realize that hard work pays off and getting a little ahead might do you good ! awesome piece good job

Senior year has a huge amount of stress and it takes a lot of hard work to get through it and Junior year had a large amount of stress added to it too. I couldn’t imagine trying to juggle both, it shows how motivated you are to get ahead. This was a really great piece !

Very well written! Senior year is an extremely stressful year and I cannot even imagine trying to do both junior and senior year together! Just shows you can do anything you put your mind to!

So true! Expect I think I have let myself slack off way to much. Where I am over whelmed with work that was due, two months ago. If I ever thought of graduating early I really would have stepped up, and gotten more than everything I needed to to graduate early. You’ve gone and made it through senior English, and have to give yourself credit of handling more classes than an average junior! I loved this because it shows that with hard work and determination you can get through almost anything.
