Mistakes Were Made

When I think of a time where someone made a mistake and learned from it, is when my friend, we will call him Jimmy, cheated on his girlfriend, we will call her Jill, and hid it from her for a long time. He has now learned that hiding it was not the best way to deal with the situation.

The relationship was toxic from the start. Jill is very controlling of Jimmy, so it wasn’t a surprise to me when he told me he had cheated on her. I’m not justifying Jimmy’s actions but I’m not saying he is all to blame. Jill didn’t like me from the beginning because Jimmy and I have been friends for a very long time she immediately assumed that there was “chemistry” between Jimmy and I. There never has been and never will be, Jimmy and I act like siblings and have never been attracted to each other. Jill refused to understand this and when I tried to be friendly with her and be civil, she was very quick to call me names and be extremely childish about the entire situation.

Long story short I never got along with Jill. Jimmy was happy though right? That’s how it seemed to everyone else, except for me. Jimmy told me everything Jill did and how she treated him. So while she made their relationship seem perfect on social media, I knew everything that was going on and how she was trying to change Jimmy into a person whom he’s not.

So domino effect occurs and Jimmy cheats on Jill. He does this because he can’t break up with Jill because every time he would try to she would say that she would harm herself if he were to leave her. I continued to tell him that cheating on her wasn’t the right decision because I have learned from experience that the people who express out loud in instances like that are the ones who won’t actually do it, they say that to be manipulative and mentally abusive. He told her about him cheating because he was very quickly overcome by guilt. Mistakes were made but people grow through mistakes and learn and become better people with those mistakes in life.
