Is That a Problem?

I agree with the statement by Duke Ellington, when he said that: “A problem is a chance for you to do your best,” when people face their problems it helps them learn and become stronger. Problems that arise in peoples’ lives test their strength and character. Facing their problems in life, forces people to rise up to the challenge and helps them realize their own strength. It can be sink or swim when it comes to dealing with problems, a person can either wallow in their bad situation or they can face it head on and at least put forth effort to overcome their problems.

When the pandemic hit us last year in March of 2020 and forced us all to go into quarantine, it was a hard adjustment for me to make, from going through my everyday life and routine, to being shut in the house all of the time. I do not like or handle being forced to be stuck in one place for a long period of time, so even though I knew that quarantine was the safest thing for everyone to be in it was still hard. After a week in quarantine, I was bored out of my mind and at that point I realized that the pandemic was probably not going to end anytime soon and we were going to be in quarantine for a while, so I decided that I needed to find a way to deal with the situation. Luckily, I found the perfect outlet when school started again, virtually. I realized that my work ethic had not been the greatest and I had the bad habit of putting the pro- in procrastinate, I knew that I needed to correct this habit and turn my work ethic around. This made me realize I could kill two birds with one stone, I could work on improving my work ethic when it came to my schoolwork and I had enough time to do it while being in quarantine. Instead of sulking about being stuck in the house, I was able to work on my management skills and greatly improve my pace when it came to turning in my school. Because I was able to take a bad situation and get a positive effect out of it, when senior year finally came around I was able to stay on teacher pace in all of my classes, even finishing some of my work early. I improved and learned a lot, because I faced a situation that I did not necessarily like and now I know that when I have problems in life, I need to handle them and try to grow from them.

Everyone faces problems in life and no one has a monopoly over hardships in life, that is why it is important for people to remember that everyone goes through their own challenges and it is important to try and overcome those problems in life, in order to grow stronger as a person. Which is why it is good to have reminders of this in everyday life, like in Kelly Clarkson’s song that was released in 2011, “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)”, the main lyric of the song is “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” The point of the song is that whatever problems or challenges a person is facing in life, eventually it will get better and once it does, facing that problem will have only made the person stronger. Songs like “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)”, support the fact that people can be stronger than they believe and that the hardships in life that they have faced do not make them weak. Problems in life are hard, but it is how people face them and overcome them, that matters at the end of the day.

When people face problems or challenges in life, it can help them learn and become stronger as a person. People learn best from experience, so by taking their problems and trying to rise above and fix them, they are able to gain new knowledge and personal strength.
