Addresses

Each year AP Lit students are give the opportunity to give an address to their class¹.  After 13 years of public education, students have a great many things to share and it makes my quite happy to them a venue in which they can do so.

Whether the address includes a humorous story, a sincere moment, hopes for the future or just well wishes to classmates, it captures an important moment.  It captures a moment in time when the student moves away from compulsory education to a world full of options. It is my hope that these addresses inspire both young and old.  They have the ability to remind the old what it is and what it can mean to be young and the young to work hard to capture many of the opportunities described.

¹Technically, the assignment is their final, so “opportunity” is a bit of a misnomer; they are required. However, most students create addresses that do a great deal more than simply fulfill the assignment.
